How old is Memorial Stadium? And when were the upper decks put in?

the north upper deck was finished in 1982 or 1983. I think the south upper deck went in the mid to late 1970's. I remember that they had a crane fall over when they were pouring the columns for the north deck. I think the stadium goes back to the 1940's.

Death Valley officially opened on September 19,1942. (I was a little over one year old!) The first game was a victory against PC, (32-13). Oddly enough, that is my prediction for the Auburn game!!LOL
Sideline seats were added in 1958 and in 1960 the first end zone seats were in place for the first time. With section GG the capacity was 53,000. Remember, Jess Neely advised coach Howard to not build a stadium with more than 10,000 seats! The upper decks were added in 1978 and 1983. As a sidenote, the original stadium was built for $125.000.00. Wow. How times have changed.
Death Valley was and still is the greatest venue in all of college football, but I am extremely biased!
