CLEMSON, S.C. -

Clemson University will have a presence at the Olympic Games in London

On Saturday, 70 musicians will fly to England to perform, an honor that the musicians said comes with butterflies and, of course, excitement.

"Not only are we going to London, it's going to be in the middle of the Olympic Games, one of the biggest international events," said Tanner Slice, a saxophonist with the Jazz Ensemble. "I love playing jazz. I love playing it here, love playing it at home and rehearsing it. So, to get to take it over to London, it's such a great way to represent America. Jazz is the quintessential American art form."

In addition to the ensemble, the Symphonic Band will also be featured performers on the summer games entertainment program.

Each group will play before millions of visitors.

"We're going to play 'Tiger Rag,' a version Dr. Speed wrote that we have never played before, based on the Glen Miller version," said Tim Hurlburt, assistant director of bands.

According to school officials, Clemson University is one of only three schools in the nation selected to participate.

"The potential exposure for this ensemble and the university in general is incredible. We're just focused on what we need to do to provide a good performance and represent Clemson, the U.S. and South Carolina in a good light," Hurlburt said.

The bands will get a chance to attend some Olympic events.

Played a gig at 356 with that guy last Spring, and it's safe to say Clemson will be well represented. That guy's a sax playing fiend. He's also a decent Halo player. lulz
