Hey Gramps what’s in your glass

Jul 14, 2022, 6:54 PM

I was thinking about taking boat out again for a booze cruise (beer only) but storms are rolling in. So my question is what’s the best bourbon you have and have you ever been disappointed by high dollar ( white whale bourbon)?

Have you been MauldinTeed?***

Currently have open some Eagle Rare

Jul 14, 2022, 7:30 PM

which I do enjoy when I want bourbon, but I have been on a dry July.

And BTW 19B®, was not able to open my Pappy at son's wedding - they would not allow it at the event.

Interesting thing. The price does not always denote how

Jul 14, 2022, 7:49 PM

good or bad any alcohol is really, liquor or wine. Now the really, best of the best will cost some money. But there are plenty that are expensive that are garbage, especially for the money. That being said, cheap stuff is not going to be good either. My sweet spot is $15-$20 for a bottle of wine. I've had $300 bottles of wine that were worse than $20 bottles. For bourbon my sweet spot is about $35-$60. Lots of good stuff in that range that's better than many $100+ bottles.

For example, this is what's in my glass tonight. About $45 or so. used to be $35. Eagle Rare used to be $35 too, now it's impossible to find and $100 if you find it.

Just finished off a nice double oak bourbon, about $35 a bottle.

Makers had a really nice one in the spring of 2021. Bought three of these. Was about $50.

Yea, the last bottle of Eagle Rare

Jul 14, 2022, 7:54 PM

I found was $65. Of course, I bought it. LOL.

Still never see any Blanton's around. I have three of those socked away.

My man. Great write up. I’m huge fan of eagle rare. Don’t really care bout the price. Daily drink is Buffalo trace. I know people may not like it. My big disappointment was pappy. I’ll take eagle rare or colonel Taylor any day Over that hot mess. And yes I have them

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I quit trying to find B. Trace, Eagle Rare, and Col. Taylor

Jul 15, 2022, 7:54 AM

They are all EXCELLENT but the run on that Distillery and markup if you can find it steered me away from them.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, it's a never-ending saga of finding good bourbon

Jul 15, 2022, 8:53 AM

You find one cheap, that's really good. Then it becomes hard to find, then you eventually find it again at a price that's too expensive, then you keep searching for the next big thing that's cheap.

Eagle Rare was $35 when I started drinking it. Last bottle I actually saw as $95. NEXT!!!!!

That being said, I have a untouched half gallon bottle of it just sitting. Paid $50 for it.

Dry July. Lipton Diet Green Tea. Don't really drink bourbon.

Jul 14, 2022, 7:53 PM

Usually have some Beam or Evan Williams around for medicinal purposes, but since COVID I have not gotten many colds. So not many toddies made.

When drinking, APM prefers Scotch.

Disappointing high-end Scotch? Oban 14.

I can give you a disappointing Scotch

Jul 14, 2022, 7:57 PM

Balvenie 17 year old Doublewood - I know I paid over $200 for this at Costco and I like the 12 year better.

The best bourbon I own

Jul 15, 2022, 8:20 AM

is either Blantons Straight From the Barrel or Russells Reserve 13 Year.

I will smash WT 101 every day of the week though.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsonrulez08.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jul 15, 2022, 9:02 AM

WT101 is so good, so smooth, and it is nice to know a bourbon connoisseur like yourself agrees with me on that one.

2024 purple level memberringofhonor-greenr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I love you too, man

Jul 15, 2022, 11:58 AM

Its easily the best bottle in the $20 range. Plus, you dont feel guilty if you throw it in a mixed drink to take to the pool or letting visitors drink it however they please.

So far this AM I’ve had a 12oz SFRB, a cup of black coffee out of a crusty keurig, and working on a 32oz berry G zero. Got a case of busch lattes in the yeti and stocked up the new wine fridge at total wine yesterday, probably going to drink some rose later cuz I’m a sassy betch.

Wiggly Bridge Small Barrel Bourbon from Maine is a good little gem. The older young zettner got it for me when he was in Maine for Father's Day.
