I was in Charleston the other day and caught this guy's show on the radio. Does anyone listen to him regularly?

I listen to him pretty much every day on the way home from work. He's a gamecock but gives Clemson lots of props. Typically Dabo's pressers are always on, callers are the best part of the show though as they get him all worked up.

Bobby went to my high school, and also owned a sports bar here in Charleston, so I tried to listen to him, but he is the biggest homer in the world. He tried to be objective, but his feathers always showed. And how can you blame him? He was a cheerleader at SCAR back in the day. That's basically what he is on the radio. Decent guy, but the show is not very good. He at least has a couple of regular Clemson callers, but they always get shouted down.

His bar was a great place through the 90s and early 2000s. The culture around Charleston took a huge left yuppee turn in that area and he sold the bar. Shame. But he is one of the most lucid gamecock fans you’ll ever talk to

They usually had a pretty good deal on a nice steak.
A friend of mine had his office in that little shopping center which was at the corner of Cosgrove and Otranto? Does that sound right? And we would go there sometimes for lunch or happy hour.
That area has really really changed over the last 10 years. But then what hasn’t been changing radically around Charleston for the last 10 years?
Speaking of steak and Charleston. You guys remember Breck’s? Best steak deal in town!

Brecks changed owners about 8 years ago. Hasn’t been the same since. They still have great food. But it was greatererer before the new ownership.

True. It is not the same. But it is still a good deal and good.

It’s just not great.
Back in the 70s my dad used to drive by that little white block building in that ###### parking lot there where the original restaurant was. It looked like a dive bar or a sleazy strip club but my dad noticed the parking lot was always full of Cadillacs and Mercedes-Benz and BMWs. He said what the Hells going on at that place. So one day he went in and sat at the bar and ordered A beer and all of a sudden the old Gaz Asian wife came out the kitchen with these two big plates and put them on the bar serving the guy sitting next to my dad. One plate was piled high with steak fries and the other was not a plate but an actual oval platter and the T-bone steak was hanging off the platter on all four sides and it was like two or 3 inches thick. My dad immediately ordered a porterhouse and said it was the best #### steak he ever had in a restaurant.
He started taking me but my mom would go because she did not believe it was actually a nice family run restaurant based on how it looked on the outside.
That old guy first retired from the Navy then I think he retired from the shipyard and he met his wife I think in Okinawa and when he retired they opened up that restaurant his last name was Breck.
After he died she tried running it for a while by herself but then sold it because she was getting up in age. And yes it’s not what it was but it is still good and still a bargain compared to other steak restaurants.
Another one of my favorite restaurants that is now gone was Stono Café on Maybank Highway on James Island. That place was fantastic.
And of course that will never be places again like The Edisto motel grill in Jacksonboro or the Trawler on Shem Creek, nor the Atlantic house on Folly Beach.

Rittenburg. I never went to his bar but I've been told it was where Charleston SPorts Pub is located now on the corner of those two roads.

His show is terrible - I haven't listened in years. He talks like he's got marbles in his mouth and spends 3/4 of the time on the air giggling or flirting with whatever unfortunate intern that couldn't find a better opportunity. He rags on Clemson hard - I don't understand the point in listening to that drunken drivel..

Look his show may not be the best but he's a local guy and i like him. He's pretty fair but yes he is a gamecock in the end, but he'll also tell you they suck so at least he's logical about it. He's a lot better than Rob Morrow who took over Jamie Bradford's hour. Bradford was also a clucker but he played baseball for them so to be expected. Bradford knew sports/college football though....Morrow is a pompous northerner who knows absolutely nothing about college football. His show is terrible.

I think it’s a pretty good show. He’s very big on letting the callers drive the show. How can you complain about that?
FYI I am the Clemson fan/grad that calls in and teases Bobby about the McDonald’s milkshake machine and I’m the one that took some vanilla milkshakes over to them back in the spring during the show.
He does have some crazy regular callers. That old guy that used to live in Charleston that is now back in Boston but still listens online and calls in a few times a week is hilarious. He always gets Bobby wound up. Boston John!

Here’s the lowdown on that show
Aug 18, 2021, 10:50 AM
|
|
1. The callers/listeners dictate the conversation for the most part.
2. Once a week they have a very good segment on golf, which you don’t hear much on sports radio.
3. Once a week they have a very good segment where a local orthopedic surgeon calls in and they talk about sports injuries in college and pros. That’s pretty unique.
4. They do a lot of very good NASCAR coverage and he has a long time NASCAR insider that’s on the show on a regular basis.
5. They do a great job covering high school sports in South Carolina.
6. They talk a little bit of pro sports, but it is mostly a college sports program and very heavy on Clemson, South Carolina, and of course the three schools in Charleston. Charleston Southern, College of Charleston, and the Citadel.
7. Bobby has a great relationship with the Ronald McDonald house at MUSC which has a very good Children’s Hospital and they do a great job every year around Christmas raising a bunch of money for the Ronald McDonald house.
8. Fairly regularly they do live remotes from a car dealership and Home Team BBQ, which is owned by a Georgia grad.
9. As others have noted, he is an ex gamecock cheerleader and he is the president of the Charleston area gamecock club. So he is definitely a homer, but he does a pretty good job of being objective and does in fact give Clemson a lot of credit.
10. Bobby is originally from Orangeburg and graduated from Orangeburg High School.
11. The show is actually pretty funny and they do some hilarious stuff late in the spring early in the summer during downtime when debates get started on sandwiches and food mayonnaise music pop-culture really almost anything pops up as a topic of conversation. And he has the callers take polls and chime in on stuff like is a hotdog a sandwich, do you put mayonnaise on a hotdog, sll kinds of crazy stuff that makes the show actually funny as hell sometimes.
