Instead of celebrating romantic love, the Dudeist Pal-o-mine's Day celebrates pals, friendships and good buddies. Occurs one day before Valentine's Day so that those who are in romantic relationships can celebrate that as well.

Valentine's Day. I've never really participated much myself. Maybe go out to dinner, but the whole V-day thing just makes me laugh, frankly.

I've never been a romantic type. My wife is ok with that, and she's all that matters in that arena. We'll have been married for 40 years at Christmas, so I guess I'm doing something right.

I have worked jobs around the clock on every shift. Some of the best were just being locked in a building all weekend waiting on someone to attack. People would pay me to camp there and wait for as sholes to show.

Once I was fortunate to have a schedule of 7PM to "when ever". That was the time when things were boiling over in Charlotte. We did not get dispatcher calls, just responded as back up. With me were solid guys like Bruce Keller, Rick Hawks, and George Nesbitt. We got "off" when things went quiet and George called us in. He was a born leader you could count on. A few of us would pack into a car in the parking lot and drink bootleg booze till day light. We would call in to WBT and get the DJ to play "Lester Roadhog Moran & The Cadillac Cowboys'. Those guys were Pal-o-mine who I needed to survive. We also went deep sea fishing.

Here is Charles Moore, or as he preferred "O'Moore".
He is from Chester County, and a Pal-o-mine - R.I.P.
He would not yield. In a race you can coward some, some not.

He was older and took me under his wing as to how to have more fun in life.
I often competed against his son Ed, also a friend, who like me made great beer.

One year after the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston, was on a bus to get back to my car. Charles saw and called me off as across the street was Knights of Columbus. He assured me we would have "one" and make it back.

His older brother (about 200) won his age group that day, all were celebrating until his bride came in an actually pulled him out by his ear. We stayed for another and another until I had no way to get home.

The last time I saw Charles, I was 62 and won at Winthrop at a race he mostly put on. He was proud of me.
I miss Charles a lot as not many folks are into --> "fun".

To my left is Boyer - a Cop. If you need help, hope this guys shows.
I heard some cops were meeting in the park on Thursdays. The deal was to jog some and then hit the beer cooler. Ritch was as new as me as to it all. All would then go to God Fathers' Pizza as Thursday was payday, and we had $$. The girls were all there, and also jogged. It was like a party day.

In time Ritch and I improved as to jogging. Like me, he liked to race - we lined up in some town almost ever week. He is a "Pal-o-mine".
