This is pretty cool

Ran across a guy that makes handmade cutting boards. I asked him about a Clemson board, and he had already stared on one. Here is what he came up with:
I know the paw is missing the little hook at the bottom, and I asked him about it. He can't put it in there because it would eventually break at that point from use. They are not cheap, but they are hand made and well built.

Nice. If he could perfect the law he could have something here. Looks to much like a highschool team paw as is.

On seco thought. Looks like There's just too much space between the toes and pad. Actual shape look ok.

Coloring will probably change over time

My office blocks me from seeing the pic of the work so I can't say much about this particular peice but having done a bit of wood working myself, including using the woods you mentioned, you should know that the wood will oxidize over time and loses much of the dynamic coloring. The paduak will turn brown; the purple heart tends to stay purplish but with brown undertones and the maple will yellow (depends to some degree how they are finished). It will still look nice but not as bright.
As for the missing notch it has less to do with creating a weak point nor is it likely related to copywrite problems (these problems exist regardless); rather the notch isn't there because it is difficult to do. Not only do you have to cut the notch but also the contrasting wood to put in the notch (if you don't put something in the gap food etc gets stuck in the space). Matching the two is exceedingly difficult.
I have attached a pic of the Clemson seal I made using the same woods (plus others). I got around the copywrite thing by giving 1 to Clemson (currently hangs in the president's house) and only made 1 other for me.

Heck no. My woodworking capabilities consists of not much more than using a machete to prune trees.
