Having to get my Gallbladder taken out. Those of you who

Apr 14, 2015, 8:32 AM

have had that done, what were your results as far as foods that you can and can't eat before or after etc? Thanks!

@CUtiger2012 had his nuts removed when he got his first kitten. Now that he has a second one, maybe he could shed some light on post-op experiences for you.

On a serious note, good luck Swann!

Forget about eating a lot of seasoned foods anymore. But get it out before you have a GallBladder attack, OMG the pain if you have an attack.

a stone that is clogging the bile duct. Brother if child birth was worse than that pain, I could never give birth. I was dying until the morphine kicked in. Then I was a happy guy.

My brother had his gallbladder removed...

Apr 14, 2015, 9:00 AM

a couple of years ago. According to him, there is no set or special diet people should follow after gallbladder removal because the guidelines depend on the individual.

My brother does eats smaller, more frequent meals which include lean protein like poultry, fish and nonfat dairy, along with vegetables, fruit and whole grains.

He also reduced his fat intake and high-fat foods, fried and greasy foods, and fatty sauces and gravies. Instead, he eats nonfat or low-fat foods.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Re: My brother had his gallbladder removed...

Apr 14, 2015, 9:15 AM

Before my gallbladder removal, fried and highly seasoned foods was atop of food chain. After removal, fried and highly seasoned foods have had to disappear from the top. Those types of foods now, they make my guts feel like they're eating each other, and will cause me to blow the toilet up. That has been my experience post gallbladder removal. Like about everything in life, one size don't always fit all, some are out of the norm!!!
One more thing that I hate about MY gallbladder removal. They removed mine from around the navel area, it has been about 5 years ago. And I still have that numb feeling around my navel area that feels really weird there when touching it!!!

Re: My brother had his gallbladder removed...

Apr 14, 2015, 9:34 AM

Mom had her gallbladder removed about 10 years ago. I can confirm the fried/ spicy food removal. If she still eats anything fried, she might as well have had a bowl of Super Colon Blow.

The worst thing for her, though, was the mesh they used to sew her up after the surgery. The doctors apparently went through her abdominal wall. She was in her late 60's when it happened. They used a mesh to suture the opening. The mesh had apparently been rolled up before being stapled and after the surgery, it tried to roll back up - inside of her. Extremely painful. They then did another surgery to re-staple the mesh. Well, they stapled it too tightly and she then had pain from it being stretched. Every time she moved, it would pull and cause pain. It would heal, then she would do something that would pull it loose and then she would be in pain again. Because of her age, they did not want to go and do another surgery. She was in pain for years, though it did finally settle down.

Be careful how they decide to sew you up...........

Depends on the person. I can season the heII out of my food

Apr 14, 2015, 9:01 AM

and basically drink a bottle of hot sauce and I'm fine. Had mine out in May of last year. It'll take you a little time to get acclimated, but you can retrain your stomach like you can train a dog.

Hope this is my outcome!***

Re: the biggest difference that I can tell is that sometimes

Apr 14, 2015, 9:33 AM

This is pretty much my experience, too, if I go too long without eating.

The way I understand it, the gall bladder stores a liquid called bile, which is used to process fatty foods, so normally it just squirts some into your system when you eat something that needs it.

With the gall bladder removed, the bile duct from the liver is hooked straight up to your gut and just steadily drips bile into it as it's produced, so if you go too long without eating anything it can pile up. That means extra liquid in your intestine, which can cause trouble when your bowels start moving in response to food entering the system via the stomach.

The upshot is that things can get kind of unpleasant if you wait all day to eat something.

We'll try to get Gallman to visit you in the hospital!!

See what I did there?

Seriously, hope the Lord conforts you and returns positive results.

I was on my way home about 5 or 6 hours after surgery. That ticked me off bc I forgot to tell my doctor that if I stayed in the hospital over night, my insurance would pay me a thousand $ bucks.:(

After having my Gallbladder taken out. the food I could eat

Apr 14, 2015, 12:24 PM

was a huge adjustment. But after a little time I now know what I can and can't eat. Anything real greasy was sketchy at 1st, but I have learned not to eat that stuff much. If you do be close to a bathroom, but no pain. Remember you are removing your grease trap so anything real greasy is coming out quick.

They determined mine was only working about 20% efficiency or less... So when they removed it, I still could eat anything I was eating before..., no problems at all!! Good luck with your surgery, and I hope you can continue to eat as you please..., I know everyone is different!!

Re: Having to get my Gallbladder taken out. Those of you who

Apr 14, 2015, 12:48 PM

From my own experience, don't eat a lot of really spicy stuff, or really greasy stuff (like gravy). But, all things in moderation, and you shouldn't have any real issues. There will be times when you feel like your stomach is going south in a hurry, but if you hang in there, the "bile" will eventually catch up. That's really all your gall bladder is, is like an accelerator pump for injecting a shot of bile quickly.
