Staff wanted SCar not to get Otre more than we wanted him

Sep 12, 2016, 8:10 AM

I think that was pretty clear. In assessing his tape a lot of us were in agreement with that considering the caliber of WRs we can attract nationally right now. It was a similar situation with B. Edwards. Recruits and mommas of recruits aren't dumb (legacy or not). No one wants to be a fall back option. I'm sure they picked up on that too. He likely ends up being a solid player for them. It sucks gifting the enemy good players.

I'm sure there are cases where guys get pushed up boards as more of a priority as a means of keeping them away from SCar moreso than us really liking a guy. It's a dangerous game, but when comes to the WR position, I think we played it correctly.

OrTre is talented, no doubt. Good pick up by Chump, however we truly didn't need him. Probably was best for the young mans future to not sit the pine here, though offense under Roper is a death sentence to a WR lol

Pretty certain it was clear to Ortre that his options were likely : 1 . Start at Scar as a WR right away , and possibly early playing time at either UGA or UNC

Or : 2. Come to Clemson and learn the playbook as a TE and wait his turn over a year or two .

Honestly don't blame the kid , and I wish him well . In state talent should stay in state , even if they wind up in the chicken pen .
