Got a qwershion for the golf people on the board

Sep 7, 2012, 1:42 PM

Investigating a WC claim at a golf course in Myrtle Beach. It's a VERY nice course (private), etc. Anyway, I was told by the golf course superintendent and they said that EVERY DAY a guy goes out to each green on all 18 holes and cuts new holes. They said the only time the guy wouldn't cut new holes on a green is if no one played that hole the prior day, which is basically never.

I learned the reason for cutting new holes on the greens is to prevent damage to the lip of the hole and the surrounding turf on the green from excessive play, but do courses regularly cut new holes on all 18 greens every day? That sounds a bit excessive to me.....

Can anyone with some experience in this area enlighten me?

It really depends on how the course superintendent runs

the course. Nearly every public course will change holes Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and usually once during the week on like Tuesday. Sometimes they'll do it twice a week depending on the course.

Most private course change them every day.

Every course I've ever heard of will change them every day on the weekend.

Yes like previously stated the holes on upper end courses whether private or public the holes are cut everyday. On most Munis they usually cut them on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Sat, and Sunday. They do this to change the way the course plays and to keep as much traffic off the areas as possible. helps reduce stress and compaction.

They also mow greens everyday and fairways and tees every other day. Rough gets mowed once or twice a week.

Hope this helps
