Where did the Harbaugh QB myth come from?

His offenses at San Fran and Michigan have sucked. Alex Smith is way better under Reid than he ever was under Harbaugh. Mr I don't stand for the Anthem was never a great QB. What did I miss?

Harbaugh was a serviceable NFL QB , but he was never a top player in the league . It carries some weight with a lot of kids that he ascended to the highest ranks in his playing career . You add that into the pillow fights at his now infamous Jimmy's Jammies Sleep-Overs and youve got the recipe for commitments .

Stanford & Andrew Luck. Harbaugh played in the league

for ~14 years, coached others including SF to a Super Bowl. He turned fine work at San Diego into the Stanford gig turning a woeful program into an Orange Bowl winner.
Doesn't mean you have to like him.

Not saying he's not a good coach

My confusion is his credit for being a QB whisperer, not a good coach. His Niner teams were good because they had a great defense. Their offenses struggled a lot; very similar to his Michigan teams.

and you ignore it? He's been good everywhere he's been and was a QB with longevity in the league, so he knows what he's doing.
Does that mean he has to line up in spread and throw it all over the field? Nope, it appears he believes in power running and more of a ball control/power offense, utilizing the tight end as well. Toby Gerhart was a monster under Harbaugh in spite of Luck's prowess. ”They’re just physical,” Duke coach David Cutcliffe said. ”They’re going to line up in two and three tight end sets and do a lot of shifts and motion to try to create support problems for you.”

David Shaw has continued a lot of that at Stanford after Harbaugh left.

Maybe you have XBOX in mind, it's about managing the game and system. You don't win consistently without it and he's done just that.
Luck just happened to be the pinnacle and was more than good.

Like I said before, I think Harbaugh is a very good coach. There is no disputing that. I do not think he is some sort of QB expert though. There are many of his QBs who didn't make much progress at all under his leadership.

in the league, a QB coach in the league, has done nothing, but win with his QBs, but isn't a good QB coach or mentor?
You're better off just not liking him.

He's won because he is a good coach and has had great defenses. Not because he is some sort of QB guru. winning with the QBs he's had is proof he's a good coach, not that hes some sort of great developer of QBs.

have to agree, but everything that's been offered says otherwise, including Luck, his extensive experience both playing and coaching the position and record.
Strong defense has been helped by managing the ball and system, his QBs are well-coached, they don't have to always "win" the game, they also can be well-coached by not losing it.
You've really offered nothing to suggest otherwise, save maybe your dislike.

You ask a question as to WHY people might say something
Oct 21, 2017, 1:30 PM

and Tigerdug gives you his pro experience followed by me giving that plus coaching experience, college and nfl as well with a Heisman finalist at Stanford. He continues to win everywhere he's been and you don't do that without a QB that can manage whatever it is that he's asked to do.
You don't have to like the answers to acknowledge them and honestly, not ever hearing anyone say "guru"[it's OK if they do because that's their opinion], it's not a stretch by any means to see why they would say he's got a reputation for mentoring QBs as he's either been one or coached them for 30ish years?.
The only thing that seems to stand between you and at least understanding the WHY seems to be a hatred marked by your comment, which is fine, but it clouds the rest.

I agree with both of you that he is a good coach. That's not my argument. He's proven he can win with what he has on the field better than most. I can easily acknowledge that even though I dislike him and his antics.
My argument is that he is not a great QB coach as many believe him to be. None of his QBs progressed while he was at San Fran. If anything Kap regressed and eventually fell out of the league because Harbaugh failed to properly develop him as QB. None of his QBs at Michigan have shown any improvement either. If the only QB he's developed has been Luck well I guess being a great QB coach only requires one demonstration of success.

as to the why they might or do.
If you don't get that or agree, that's fine, it's your prerogative and right, but it does not change "why" they might.
Maybe you can get "them" to change their possible "whys"? Good luck.

WHY they might, more than I'd agree with you arguing over it.
Don't ask the Why if you don't want the possible answer, because you have something else in mind, because it's not difficult to see or understand, IMO, unless you're tainted and it's obvious from your OP you are.
I know, they're uninformed right?, it's just their opinion, so maybe go argue with those that you asked about as to the why, I'm sure you'll have as much luck.
In the meantime I'm sure he'll continue to win and his QBs will continue to manage that in spite of his lengthy experience and success.

" Mr I don't stand for the Anthem" has a lifetime passer rating of 88.9 which is in Brady, Brees, and Rogers territory. At the end of last year he was the best QB in the NFL not named Brady, Ryan, or Rogers(without Harbaugh) with a far lesser cast around him. His record is 4-2 in the post season(including a 3 point loss in a SuperBowl). Like it or not, he has accomplished a lot as a QB, no matter you think of his politics.PS Right now he is a better QB than anyone on the Jaguars, Browns, Bears, Vikings(unless Bradford starts, remember Gabbert was HIS backup), Green Bay's back-up, the Colt's backup, or anyone that replaced him on the 49'ers(Hoyer is a joke), although I think Beathard may prove to be a gem for a third round choice. Kaepernick is a very GOOD QB, IF he wants to play!

I actually like Kap as a player, but he has a long way to go as a QB. His athleticism was off the charts which helped him a lot. I don't care what his passer rating is. As a Niner fan I watched him every game. He just doesn't have a good feel for the passing game YET. Could be be a good passer over time? Yes, for sure because he has a great arm. I agree that he's definitely better than a lot of the QBs in the NFL now.
My point with Kap was that Harbaugh didn't make him into a great QB; not even close. He didn't develop his passing skills at all. He did what a lot of great coaches do, utilized his existing skill set enough to win games with a great defense.

I too have never heard that he is a QB guru. Its just like the poopy heads that state or think Gruden was and/or is a guru. Gruden is no guru but he makes for good tv.
I do think Harbaugh is a good coach but an easy target for the feeble minded with UM's not being world beaters.
Coaches develop systems to best take advantage of the qb and supporting cast's strengths.
Who does this best? Mr Andy Frricken Reid. I dont think of him as a guru as I dont believe in the guru myth. Period.
But Andy Reid? That ###### ###### is good.

me or anyone who offers the possible why OTHERs might see a coach, Harbaugh, in a particular light.
You give them the possibilities and they go off the deep end with you even though you're giving best guesses for someone else they brought into the conversation.
