Fri - Dinner and a movie

Sat - Soccer practice in the morning, played outside, then drove up to Greer to watch nephew run cross country and dinner out with the larger fam.

Sun - Church in the morning, hung up our street ghost, met my buddy for fishing on the Saluda and we caught 26 bass. Each of us had a big fish around 3.5 lbs.

woke up. Trimmed the trees in the front yard also. Youngest son helped me haul the limbs off into the woods. Showered and cleaned up and watched Clemson not lose. Cooked bacon-wrapped sausage on the grill for supper.

Sunday was church, a little work, grocery store run, and then cooked hot dogs with wife's homemade chili, and that's about it.

Friday had a great workshop with some really awesome college students (I think we’re going to be alright, maybe just not in the way us old farts would like)

Saturday spent the day with volunteers who help monitor the status of our water quality
Josh Arrants was the speaker. If you get a chance to hear him, he’s good - www. arrantsoutdoors

Sunday lunch with mom and home in time to wack down some brush and briars- something so satisfying about that.

Whoah that was a big logo, sorry

Friday, LOUD electric rock and roll jam session. Went far better than I anticipated with 4 guitarists rotating in and out.

Saturday, nervously watched the Clemson game, then had our 117th quarterly Supper Club Saturday night.

Sunday, mostly relaxation, grocery run & errands, and finalizing details for the trip to Austin next week. So far it looks like Carolyn Wonderland at The Continental Club on Tuesday, Walt Wilkins at the Saxon Pub on Wednesday, Lukas Nelson in-store appearance and signing at Waterloo Records on Thursday, the Teskey Brothers at Scoot Inn Friday, Hayes Carll/Todd Snider/Band of Heathens at Luckenback on Saturday, the Tyrant of Texas Funk Mike Barfield at Devil's Backbone Tavern on Sunday, and a full day kicking around San Antonio on Monday. Pretty excited about my lineup.

19/19 Covids overall.

Fri.: date night with the wife at a local Italian place. Only our second date since the five month old was born. Trying to remedy that. A.

Sat.: ran errands/wrangled children, put a chuck roast on the smoker, caught the second half of the game with our local Clemson club, made smoked chuck roast tacos. I got almost nothing on my to do list accomplished. B.

Sun.: church to dedicate the baby. We hosted our parents for brunch afterward and served coffee slush, sausage squares, bacon, and homemade orange rolls. Very good morning. Picked up some shrubs and a tree in the afternoon. Oldest son went to a pumpkin painting party at church. Dinner was Italian meatloaf, aka a giant meatball. A.

Friday: nothing of note

Saturday: up early to Cootlumbia for scokker all day. Daughter got hurt in her first game and sat out the second, but we hit up Lowe's Foods and Trader Joes. Daughter wanted Panda Express, which, to me, was suprisingly good. Not too expensive either. Listened to the Clemson game on the radio. Sounds like Cade is still tempting fate with poor turnovers.

Watched Tenorsea win, wondering now if Obed® has a UT cap instead of Vandy now.

Sunday: slept in to about 8, cleaned up a bit, church, grocery shopping with son, watched about 3 minutes of the NFL and had a scokker game. Came home, cleaned some more and rested.

I know I am getting old when being outside all day on Saturday and half a day on Sunday kicks my butt. Probably need a nap today.

Quick aside - wife and I have been riding together a lot recently. Lots of trips to CLemson, scokker and XC meets. I'm fairly certain if this continues we may have to divorce. If I am driving, she hits the air brake about a half a mile away from the car in front of us. If she is driving, it kills me the brake slams, hard acceleration, not moving around traffic to be polite to others.

Friday was tough, don't remember why, really, but daughter went to High School Football game so wife and I tried to get the boys to acrite but they were having none of it. The boys DID learn to cut the back yard so that was nice. Went to bed later than I should and in a bad mood.

Woke up at 5:00 AM Saturday so I could get middle son to a soccer match in Wilson, NC. That place sucks. So does the drive from Wilmington. Get to the match and he played great. He usually is 1st half keeper then CDM in the second half, but other goalie got hurt so he played in goal almost the whole game. Made two GREAT saves but neither would have counted as the opposition was offsides. Anyways, they won and he was happy. Headed straight from Wilson, NC to Jacksonville, NC to see the youngest play two soccer matches, listening to the Clemson game on satellite radio. Son's team was DESTROYED in both of them. Not sure if our kids have ever been coached but that was really disappointing for those boys. Then drove back to Wilmington in time to do nothing that I recall. Tried to watch college football but was too tired.

Woke up at 6:00 AM Sunday to take daughter to her first AVP Beach Volleyball tourney. She is 12 and was playing in a 14U bracket so they got stomped. Quite the learning experience but I think she had fun. There were moments of good volleyball between her and her partner but then moments of pure crap. They have a long way to go but were overall still happy. Their best match was in the knockout rounds after pool play but wasn't enough to win. Had a bloody mary at 9:00 am and that set the tone for the day. Got back to the house by noon-ish and packed the car to hit the beach because 82 degrees out. Kids were exhausted and fussy but we sat on the beach for about 3 hours. 100% worth it and it made the weekend so much better. Ate take out asian and went to bed.

My kids' teams went 1-6 on the weekend, so that wasn't good. Clemson won but apparently played poorly at times, I haven't really seen any of it. Arsenal won big and Havertz got a goal, so that is nice.

Busy AF, but still kinda fun. Might skip youngest kid's soccer game next weekend and go to Clemson for homecoming, still trying to find a dog sitter for that.

Elon-riffic!

Oct 2, 2023, 9:20 AM

Twas Family Weekend at Elon and the PAW fam lived large. To give a bit of backstory, there was no Family Weekend in 2020 (Chi-NAH virus), we were able to go in '21, then a hurricane basically led to the cancellation of errthang last year. So this was our second and last family weekend for lilAPM. We did it right.

Friday - arrived at the Airbnb, went to lilAPM's off campus crib, then went to a Vietnamese place for Pho. APM had a Laotian beer. Beerlao. Quite good. Pilsner natch.

Saturday - up & at 'em for family breakfast with the university president. Elon always does a good job with these types of events. We got swag (t-shirts, coffee mugs), had a good breakfast, APM met the President, then she had remarks for the whole group. I cannot recommend Elon highly enough to anyone whose kids might be looking at schools. It reminds me a lot of how Clemson used to be.

Then we walked around a little, bought more stuff at the bookstore, then met up with lilAPM for fanfest. Had lunch, got fun family pix taken, etc.

Then we headed over to the football game. We only stayed for the first quarter. Elon wound up beating William & Mary. Importantly, APM did not see one minute of the Clemson game or of Spurs/LFC. Sounds like missing LFC was G-d's grace. Caught the Clemson replay last night.

Then we headed off campus for lilAPM's fraternity "darty" (day party). APM had two Busch Lights and a shot of Fireball that a Mom was pouring for all the parents. APM was feeling irie.

Then we ran some shopping errands with lilAPM (blackout curtains for his bedroom) and ended with dinner at a Jamaican joint. APM had oxtails, rice & peas, cabbage, and Yardie steam (okra). TWas the bomb.

Sunday - met lilAPM out for coffee. Said our goodbyes. Got home, did laundry, house & work prep stuff, then watched a good bit of the Clemson replay. Good to see some explosive plays.

One final word - for those of you with young'uns in college, it goes by quicker than you think. The on-campus visits will be affected by things outside of your control. Take advantage of the opportunities you have.

Outstanding, we won a game that I was half convinced

12

Oct 2, 2023, 10:18 AM

that we were going to lose. But Cade showed signs of improvement, and Greenville High's own Tyler Brown is electric. I understand that Clemson wasn't even recruiting him. Sigh. I guess he's not 6'4" and not a basketball leaper.

Also, number 12 on defense is making impacts every time he's on the field. Mafah showed nice patience on his TD run, waiting for the counter blocks to happen, which they did, happily.

Watched Duke and Notre Dame; Duke is pretty good, but I don't know the status of Riley Leonard's injury.

Coots got slammed and Tennessee players looked as thuggish as the Coots used to. Can't stand Rattler, but he's got an absolute rocket of an arm. Tennessee did a great job on Leggette.

Yankees are rurnin' America

11

Oct 2, 2023, 10:31 AM

If not America, the south.

Friday--don't recall, must not have been worth it. I do remember being in bed by 10:30pm--maybe the earliest I have gone to bed in 25 years. I wasn't tired, just bored.

Saturday, slept very late because tired from going to bed too early, watched some youtube, did not watch 5 seconds of Clemson football, heard the score on the radio later. Fixed my mailbox and its rotting supports and halfass painted it, so it almost kinda looks normal now. Needs new numbers. Thinking about getting one of those largemouth bass mailboxes just to be obnoxious. Don't recall the rest of the day.

Sunday, and WHY I HATE YANKEES

Dropped off a buddy at IOP Marina who is going to spend a few days on Goat island. I was helping him and his friends unload the truck/load the boat, and returned to the dock to find some chick untying the boat. I got there just in time to hear "Why are you effing with my boat?" from one of the guys going to teh island. Turns out this yankee chick decided her fam in her boat needed to park where friends-of boat was parked, so I guess she was just going to untie his boat. She started in on him how inconsiderate he was for parking at the end of the finger pier, and just wouldn't shut up. I looked at friend of and said "yankeassholes" and shook my head, and then she started mouthing off at me with the nasally ear vomit accent, something about having her kids with her and we were at the dock too long.

I told her that touching someone else's boat or lines are actions that'll get your @ss beat, and then her fat little idiot son who looked to be about 17 stood up and called me "illiterate". I guess that's the best he could come up with, so I just started laughing at him. She continued with why we should move and I said they could have just parked in front of us (that's why when you are loading a boat you park at the END of the finger pier), but apparently her husband can't drive a boat well enough to do that, and that I asked how that was our fault. She was continuing on in the background, so being that I'm married..I know how to p!ss off an irate woman. I told her to "calm the eff down" and thought her head was going to explode. Then I asked her in my calmest voice..."look at you. you're a mess. Why are you so angry?", and she started rattling off some yankee nonsense about starting a petition or something, and asked us when we were leaving. I told her that since it made her so mad, we were going to stay there all day just to watch her get more angry. Obviously she was real worried about her kids, because she told me and everyone loading the boat to "eff off" LOUDLY-- about 4x. I went back to the truck and got some more stuff to unload, and when I came back her husband had somehow docked the boat and went to get his truck/trailer. She was STILL mouthing off to my friend, who was mostly ignoring her and just looked up and said "You're a mouthy little b!tch, aren't you?"... and her head exploded again. She just couldn't shut up.

I went to leave and told her "Bye Karen!" and by this point we had a crowd watching, and they all started laughing. She dropped another "Eff you!". Nuthin' but class coming from Ohio, or NJ, or NY...or wherever they are from that's not here.

The mouthy little witch is lucky she didn't get her and her husband physically embarrassed at the boat ramp Sunday. I contemplated pushing her in the water but thought better of it. If he had said one word to any of us, we would have probably had the cops called on us. I can't imagine this is the first time her entitlement has overflowed; maybe that's why her husband kept quiet.

Pinging fluffhead to let him know this is what his marina has turned into.

Why didn't you load the boat while it was on the trailer?

4

Oct 2, 2023, 10:37 AM

Why did the other fam need to park? Just pull up to the dock, let the people out, then wait on someone to back the truck down.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

There were multiple people coming at different times, and

3

Oct 2, 2023, 10:41 AM

They were shuttling stuff back and forth to the island.

Apparently the husband was the only one that could drive the truck and boat, and obviously he was not that great at it driving the boat, because he couldn't put it in the 25' open space in front of friends-of boat.

He took two tries to back it up, then dunked the entire trailer underwater to the point the bunks were totally submerged and out of sight. He got 2/3 of the rear wheels of the Suburban dunked, too, and as good as GM's are with corrosion and electronics, I'm sure that will work out well for him in a few weeks.

He drove up to the trailer and connected the boat, and somehow he pulled out and the boat dropped straight on the trailer. He got super lucky that it wasn't crooked on the trailer, and I was hoping it would be. They didn't spend 15 seconds getting in the suburban and were haulingass out of the boat landing.

I hope they got pulled by IOP police for speeding.

teh island. It was close, and a nice ramp. I hate it now because it 1) costs $57 to put the boat in and park, and 2) they only have about a half dozen boat/trailer parking spaces. It's pretty obvious they wanted to get rid of the locals, and that's exactly what they have done. I'm interested in how the whole thing fares over time.

Sorry fluffhead, that place sucks now.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

whale,

Oct 4, 2023, 9:46 PM

we do have 14 spots on our side of the lot and the city has 12 on their side. That sum total of 26 spots on property is equal to the amount of spots at the Shem Creek Landing. Our ramp even has a one more lane than Shem Creek and you don't have to deal with Shem Creek.

You can launch your boat for free anytime you like. If you wanna park, that's the part that'll cost you $50. One may say semantics, but this means you can launch and go park anywhere else on the island (preferably legally).

Any of your friends that still live on the island can park without paying so long as they have their stickers. That's for cars and truck/trailers. Free parking and dedicated spots for island residents seems pretty friendly to locals if you asked me.

What time were you out there on Sunday? I kinda wanna go back and watch and see your shenanigans. Did either of you try to tie up behind the Scout? There are no cleats behind it and you wouldn't believe how many people run their lines across the dock for a nice tripping hazard to tie up in a spot that doesn't exist as a spot.

We get that it's changed, but at least we got friendly staff that won't yell at you.

Ineligible user, I invite you to come in and say hello next time, I was there all afternoon on Sunday

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: whale,

Oct 5, 2023, 9:52 AM

fluffhead

Nobody tied up behind the Scout. I'm not sure they could? Friend-of's boat was on the other side of the Scout's finger dock. I think it was around 12:30 or so when we started loading up; our boat (that was in the way of yankee Karen) was a 17' or 18' older Mako CC; He was 10'-15' from the end of the same finger dock The Scout is moored to. Karen's fam drove up in what looked like a 23' Key West or Sportsman and had a maroon Suburban/Yukon pulling it, with a couple ugly fat kids.

Where is the city truck/trailer parking? The only boat/trailer parking I am aware of is the 8-10 spaces right along the wooden fence on the Islander 71 side of the parking lot. Sunday I saw 2 trucks/trailers parked in the parking lot closer to the restaurant, but I wasn't sure if they were legal.

As for parking...what was the parking/launch fee before the redesign? Like $125/year for IOP residents and $15/park for everyone else? I never heard anyone on the island complain about paying $125 for landing access; heck when I lived there I bought a Sullivan's Island sticker, too...just in case. $57 to park seems a little much to me; for instance let's say I pick up friends out there who are out in the boat for 3-4 hours. They have to pay $57 to park for 3 hours? That's ridiculous. That has to be (at least) 2x what it cost last year to park there, and more than 2x what it was just 3 years ago.

I think everyone knows what that increase was meant to do; it's definitely keeping the Mt Pleasant "locals" and everyone else from the other 3 counties away from IOP who might come out there. There's no where else on the island it costs to park that much. Imagine if the island starting charging that much to park to go to the beach?

Also before the ruckus..didn't know if you'd be there on a Sunday--I would definitely had said hello. We walked through the store because friend-of hadn't been in since the remodel so he wanted to see it.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: whale,

Oct 5, 2023, 9:52 PM

Dear Ineligible userThe gravel lot in front of the restaurant is resident only truck/trailer until 3 PM.
After 3 PM cars are allowed to park there for restaurant use. Basically, it's dedicated trailer parking until 3 and then it's first come first serve between car and trailer. Islander and the city monitor that lot.

If they are parking a car for those 3 hours, it's $16 for 4 hours. $20 for the day. $50 overnight. If you wanna park and just grab something from the store the first hour is free. If you are parking a truck and trailer for the day it's $50.

It was $20/day launch fee. People raised hayull when it went up from $15. It's interesting to me how many people of cloudy memories and swear up and down that it was $12 or $9 or some random number that it's never been. I have no idea what the annual pass was for residents. If they didn't complain at $125, they definitely aren't complaining at free.

What I have learned in this project is that all of the land, docks, and buildings are all owned by the city of isle of palms. It's not a true "public" boat ramp as it's always been treated. I say that in a sense of it not being operated by Charleston County Parks. I've always been lucky enough to live in a hood with a ramp or a member at Hobcaw and have had easy access to the water. I've quickly realized that 2 good ramps (Remley's and Shem Creek) and 1 bad ramp (Paradise) isn't remotely close to enough public access to the water for a town the size of Mount Pleasant.

With it being owned by the city as an amenity for the residents it could easily just be chained off and only offered to residents. There are plenty of neighborhoods with ramps in town that operate like this without issue. However, nobody actually wants that or has any thought of actually doing it. I'll repeat, we don't want that and aren't doing that.

The amount of freeloading down there was pretty impressive from my understanding. For example, there was a microwave in the store like in a gas station. People would bring a lunch, heat it up, fill their own cup with a fountain drink, sit outside and eat said lunch, and then take a dump in the bathroom. All without paying for a thing. People will drop just about anything in the dumpster/dumpster area. I know that the land used to be the town dump, but modern times don't offer any hints that it's ok to ditch your old couch in the parking lot. You see some running water? Sure go ahead and wash your boat with it and take your time, it's free, heck go ahead and wash your truck too.

I know it's drastically different and everyone hates change. The people you don't hear from on social media are the ones that love the change. We get plenty of compliments daily and have regulars again and people are generally happy with what we have done. And I know it's easy to say that they are only nice to my face, but I've had a handful of people looking me dead in the eye saying how we have ruined it and they effing hate it. I'm totally fine with some negative feedback, but the delivery from some people is just awful.

Real nice, thanks for asking.

Friday had anniversary dinner with Wife-of at Restaurant 17 out in TR. Very pretty spot, food was great. Wallet was pillaged.

Saturday up and about, went on bike ride before tigahs game. Spent rest of day puttering around house and watching football.

Sunday was yardwork and fix-it chores around the house. Spent a few hours cleaning and working on my bike and Sone-of's bike. Fired up the grill for dinner. Managed to be outside almost all day.

Would repeat, would recommend, would not change a thing.

RIP Mariners.

Got complimented on the re-paint of the mailbox by the elderly neighbor across the street (spray paint black, repaint numbers with gold metallic paint... nothing special)

I'd say good.

Must have been mailbox maintenance weekend.***

Or you live in my hood...everybody got the HOA letter

3

Oct 2, 2023, 11:44 AM

I had been planning to repaint for a while, the box was sunbeaten and the black was oxidized.

But the "our survey of the neighborhood indicates that the numbers on your mailbox are no longer conforming with the neighborhood standards. Numbers must be metallic gold. You are required to correct this within two weeks of receiving this notice or be subject to fine." letter that 90% of the neighborhood got...

So glad we don't have an HOA.

And miraculously, we are able to police ourselves when we should bring in our trash cans, and how long i keep my garage door open.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I had my garage door open for hours this weekend.

I lived in an HOA that I got a fine for that once.

2

Oct 2, 2023, 12:39 PM

I asked them how they knew how long it was open, and they said they sat and watched.

Apparently, 15 minutes is the time limit.

Later, I got a fine (twice) for leaving my trash can out for 24 hours after trash collection showed up.

I sent the president of the HOA a letter telling them they had a racist agenda, and that I was being singled out with excessive fines.

I didn't hear a squeak out of them for the next 2 years until I moved.

Fri - watched the US get their asszz handed to them in the Ryder Cup. Over to Augusta to visit lil bro and spell his wife for a bit. Back to Aiken and head out to the club for our first event since May. Good drinks, great food, had a blast.

Sat - played golf with son in the member-member, golf course was incredible. Lots of great changes. Planned to go out with son and have a couple more drinks, but crashed when I got home. Woke up at 10 pm and hung out with wife for a bit.

Sun - woke up for redhead things. Watched the US get their asszz handed to them in the Ryder Cup. Pitiful. Watched some football and just kinda hung out.

Golfy, boozy, redheaded thingy - good weekend.

Wife took son-of for apple picking on Sat, so had peace at home with daughter-of to watch our game. Overall happy with our team's effort, play, and plan. Still a lot to improve on. Syracuse also had a lot of mistakes. Met some friends at Pixie and Bills for dinner and food was good.

Sunday...did a grocery run after breakfast. Hit Verizon and got a new tablet. Watched a lot of NFL and CMC saved my fantasy team with a record day. Repaired our 1/2 bath toilet...had to replace the tank to bowl seal and bolts. As with most plumbing jobs, it turned into a harder job than planned.

Overall simple and good weekend.

Thursday - drove to Charlotte, practiced Hornets Nest & Pebble Creek disc golf courses, then went to my Uncle's cigar club, smoked, drank, and watched football.

Friday - 8:00 tee time at my uncles country club, shot an 80 finishing double double, then a 1:40 tee time at Hornets Nest, then went to the cigar club, smoked, drank, and watched football.

Saturday - 8:30 shotgun at my uncles country club, shot an 86 with a laughably bad 43 putts - it was so terrible it was hilarious, then 1:50 tee time on lead card of the tournament, Ricky Wysocki's younger brother was on my card and Ricky himself was out there following his brother. I was nervous, the wide open disc golf course on a golf course in the wind did not suit me very well and I crapped the bed a little bit. If you didn't Google Ricky Wysocki, he's literally one of the best disc golfers there is, I'm going to chalk it up to that. Then I went to the cigar club, smoked, drank, and watched football.

Sunday - Woke up early and went to the cigar club to watch the USA finish out their choke job. Then 12:20 tee time for the final round of the tournament, took a quadruple bogey on the third hole and hit the #### it switch, managed to finish the round +3. I finished the tournament in the top 10 and a rating well above my current one, so I'm happy with how I played.

Monday - took care of lilkrzy and took him to day care. Went and played a flex tournament and shot my second ever 1000+ rating round.

tl;dr - soccerkrzy played lots of disc golf and golf, smoked 15 cigars, and had a great weekend in Charlotte.

week. They'll also use Camp Canaan, which is an Innova signature course. Mrs. Tig worked the local qualifier at Canaan last Friday. I don't know how you consider yourself a disc golfer if you haven't played those two courses ;)

I want to get out to USDGC, but probably not in the cards.

Wifekrzy and I have some crazy AF scheduling right now.
