I like most of your post. I don't always agree with you, but when I read your post I don't cringe like I do with some others here.
Even though your "team" lost last night, you seem to have very rational post.
Honestly, if it weren't for the Tea Party, the hard core religious right, and the neo cons, I'd probably vote PUB more. I feel the party has been hijacked though, and as a whole is extremely out of touch. Out of touch with their social views, led by a bunch of chicken hawks.
It's not like I have been excited to vote DEM the past decade, but I feel I've had little choice. Really, I wish more independents would come up and take some power away from the two major parties.

but I do not believe the R party has been hijacked, but I guess thats because I am Christian and believe that those values should be a part of my voting process.
I actually think the Democractic party has been hijacked in the past 8 years by a strong liberal, God-less base who wants nothing to do with Christianity and everything to do with moral relativism.

Moral relativism is basically the idea that to each his own and that what works for you does not work for some people. Its essentially the rationalization of any situation based on the persons circumstances.
I am only 30 years old and saw this common attitude throughout college and still today amongst my friends. Its the cultural norm now.

I don't think you need to be a Christian to have morals.
Just be a decent person, and leave religion completely out of politics. That's my view at least.

Christianity is but one religion of many seen in the US. Even amongst Christians, there are a lot of varying interpretations of Biblical texts alone. I don't like being told to do or not do something based on someone else's interpretations.

if you are a Christian then that rules your every day life and it cannot be removed from any part of it.
You cannot simply exclude it for politics, or work or at sporting events, etc.

I agree completely, however I do not ever see this happening. Independants rarely get enough exposure and media recognition for the public to even know there is another option, IMO.

I understand the politics of it and the need to get more votes by trying to appeal to more people, but why is diversity, in and of itself, good?
Why is the same not said to black people about voting democrat in huge %'s. Are we really to believe 90% of black people actually agree with most of the democrat party positions?
Given our current political climate, short of nominating a black person, what could the GOP do to carve off more of the black vote?

however, it certainly is less educated.
And I don't mean that as a slam to liberalism or that educated folks can't be liberal.
What I mean is that there are too many people that vote on both party sides that are unengaged and/or lack the education or sense to understand the issues and form their own opinions. No one can convince me that anywhere close to 90% of blacks would come down as liberal were the issues presented in a vacuum.

I just posted a similar topic...
but I'll ask it here, too.
What can the Republicans do to appeal more to Hispanics and Blacks, without betraying the ideological roots of their party?
This mantra that somehow the Republican party is reaping the punishment of a strong tie to the Tea Party movement is off base, IMO.
It has more to do, like George Will said, with one party, due to basic policy preferences, having automatic "ins" with rising demographic subgroups.
This is just an increasingly liberal country.
