If he's not they better plant some drugs on him to fire for cause. If not he would be the most expensive coach in history (per game). FSU paid about $4.5 in buyouts to get him, and they would owe him about $25,000,000 for what is left on his contract. That would come out to just shy of $10 million per game coached.

Can they afford NOT to fire him? What is the cost of keeping him? Incredibly obvious this is a complete disaster.
Bring in Tommy as interim. Something, anything.

Sometimes you have to fight through mistakes. They can't pay $30 million for a three game coach.

Lol I cannot understand how taggart cannot at least be competitive with all the talent he inherited. He must not be a great coach. I've honestly never heard of her until now

I'd say their o-line is absolute garbage, but that's unfair to garbage. Five garbage cans could block better.
But this is nothing new. Their o-line was awful last year.
Without an o-line, it doesn't matter how many skill players you have or how good your defense is.

At this point, I would be shocked if he makes it to the end of the year.

I know it’s early, but something is clearly wrong within their program. It’s certainly not bad to lose to Virginia Tech, but needing a pick six to put Samford away late in the game and now losing badly to Syracuse is inexcusable.

In an interview earlier today, he was throwing his players under the bus indicating that the reason FSU is not doing well is because the players are not executing correctly. None of it is his fault I guess. I called this preseason, so I'm not surprised at Taggart's inability to coach against good teams. FSU is stupid, and I'm thankful for that.

Not sure who you’re hearing it from, but one of my closest friends is a former player/grad assistant and he says the exact opposite. Taggart is a players coach without question.

for 85% of Taggart's remaining contract if they fired him, which comes out to well over $20 million. I don't see how they could afford to do it.

for a football Ops building. He ain’t going to be there when it’s finished. FSU is lost. Maybe they should have been nicer to Jimbo ??

Did he have it written in the contract to have his name placed on the building? If so, then yes, because they are not about to name it the Gulf Coast Ghost.

I think Taggart probably has his drawers and clothes packed in that Turnover Backpack, just to facilitate a covert departure in the middle of the night.

I hate making it a racial issue

but it appears that FSU prioritized getting a black coach over on-field success. Why else would they hire a coach who has a career record below .500?

Because he was the hottest name in Florida before Frost and they was eyeing him when Oregon hired him, as LSU was courting Jimbo the year before. Willie had Oregon rolling before the hometown QB from Eugene got hurt last year. Thing FSU did not consider is how weak the PAC was last year and obviously did not look at overall record. He had turned around 2 smaller programs but did not stay long enough to sustain those programs. 2 to 3 years and he moved up/on. The only somewhat impressive team he had over the years was at USF 2 years ago.

Here are his season by season results as a head coach.
Sep 15, 2018, 4:17 PM
|
|
2010 Western Kentucky 2-10 2011 Western Kentucky 7-5 2012 Western Kentucky 7-5
2013 South Florida 2-10 2014 South Florida 4-8 2015 South Florida 8-5 2016 South Florida 10-2
2017 Oregon 7-5
Overall record 47-50
He showed an ability to increase wins each year, which was especially impressive at WKU since they were pretty bad when he arrived (0-12 the year prior, their first in the Sun Belt). His first year at USF was a slight dip from the year prior, as they were 3-9 in 2012 under Skip Holtz. I agree with you that his 2016 season at USF was impressive, and he was a hot commodity. It's hard to judge him based on one year at Oregon, although 7-5 with their talent in the Pac 12 isn't that impressive IMO. Still, only one season there isn't much to evaluate on.
I don't think Taggart is a bad coach at all. He seems like a nice guy. But FSU is a top college football job - easily top 10, and arguably top 5. They could have gotten someone with a lot more proven success than Taggart, which is why I can't help but assume that his race played a role here. I don't think they would have hired a white coach with a 47-50 career head coaching record.

I don't think his record is really an issue. He took over

two program that were in terrible shape and made them quite a bit better before he moved on. In neither place did he stick around to potentially reap the rewards of his rebuild. And 1 year at Oregon wasn't long enough to learn much. They were very good with Justin Herbert healthy and very bad without him.
He was also a Florida guy that grew up a FSU fan and has a reputation as being an ace recruiter. I can see reasons for FSU liking him.
That said, he was a risky hire in the sense that he had never really run a program that didn't need a rebuild and he had never really coached a high level team. Oregon was the closest thing to either of those but he was only there for one year.

... He coached the final 2 games last year, won both handily including the bowl game. Players love him. DL on FSU dynasty teams. Big mistake overlooking Odell, but great for Clemson!

unless he goes like 2-10. From what I've seen so far they could lose to NIU next week though.
