FSU outfielder

May 15, 2012, 11:54 AM

just made the top plays on Sportcenter. And they had the nerve to make fun of our warning track hill

Ii think it's dumb.

May 15, 2012, 11:57 AM

I'm all for idiosyncrasies in a ballpark, but when it interferes with basic play, I think it's unnecessary. Players should be able to run around in fair territory and not worry about navigating obstacles.

Uh, it's called "home-field advantage"***

Could be. I think it cheapens gameplay a little.***

Obstacles...

May 15, 2012, 12:19 PM [ in reply to Ii think it's dumb. ]

You make it sound like there are hurdles and fire pits out there. It's a small incline...a very intuitive idea actually.

And most of all...opposing teams hate it...which means it's doing exactly what we made it to do.

I've been to 100s of Clemson baseball games

May 15, 2012, 2:16 PM [ in reply to Ii think it's dumb. ]

and the only 2 people I've seen fall on that hill were both Clemson players. The incline isn't exactly original to Beautiful Tiger Field.

I guess you have a problem with Wrigley's brick walls, or the layout of Fenway. They interfere with basic play as well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not a big fan of either...

May 15, 2012, 2:56 PM

The ivy/brick walls are worse. Neat tradition, but bad for actual gameplay.

Fenway's layout is unusual, but it doesn't interfere with basic play. I think a hill is a little different. Makes it a little less "baseball" and more "circus". Just my opinion.

And I'm aware Clemson's field isn't the first to have an incline. Crosley Field was the most famous. Minute Maid in Houston has one now. I don't like it either.

And, who gives a flying flip what ESPN has to say.

May 15, 2012, 12:16 PM

I make fun of them ALL the time. And, I know they don't care what I have to say.

I only have one thing to say to ESecPN-"Its lunch time, go make me a sammich!"

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I love the hill

May 15, 2012, 1:00 PM

and the grass all the way to the fence. certainly a home field advantage, just like all the pro ballparks with their odd shaped fences.

and it looks great, and it's unique to Clemson. Love it.

Re: FSU outfielder

May 15, 2012, 3:00 PM

Houston Astros Minute Maid park has a hill as warning track in center field and a flag pole to play around.

Three wall heights, various angles in the corners and power alleys, a 30-degree, uphill slope - "Tal's Hill" - for a center field warning track, and a flag pole in the field of play create unique actions for any ball that gets past an outfielder.

Who cares what the idiots at ESPN think.

The hill is actually safer than a simple warning track and

fence. The incline slows speed heading into the wall and helps prevent injuries that way. The FSU outfielder had an easy fall and catch. Imagine if he was making that play on a warning track instead.
