27 players over the last two years from the portal (15 last year, 12 this year). That's about 31% of their roster. Judging by the amount of times the announcers are saying the word "transfer" tonight it seems like 80% of the players on field didn't start off at either FSU or LSU. May as well call this the "transfer" bowl.

Just something about having this high number of transfers doesn't sit well with me. Almost feels like recruiting, developing players, and the importance of getting an education is of no consequence.


I'm guessing that the majority of folks in the portal are there for one of four reasons:

CAT 1: talented starters who are searching for a bigger payday
CAT 2: non-starters wanting more playing time
CAT 3: players who have a conflict (e.g. family issue, problems with current coaching staff etc..)
CAT 4: FCS players who want a shot in the FBS.

I don't know that I would ever have a lot of trust in a CAT 1 player but imagine those are the ones most sought after by teams like FSU, LSU and their portal happy ilk. For what it is worth I'm glad Clemson hasn't sold our soul to the portal in the kinds of numbers FSU has. Part of me thinks there is no way FSU can build sustained success using the portal to this extent...

Every situation is different.

I’m not a fan of building your program from the portal UNLESS you’re just that bad to begin with.

Prime (pun intended) example is Colorado. They were 1-11. Need a quick talent fix.

FSU fell on hard times talent wise before norvell got there. He utilized to have a quick turnaround. He won’t “depend” on as much moving forward UNLESS you have a top talent that just wants to play there.

Clemson needs to utilize it but not at a point to depend on it……..yet. Gotta use it to shore up some of our talent deficiencies, WR being priority #1 & 2

Hope you are right, but so far, it looks like money well spent by FSU.
They are wearing LSU out!
