Freakshow coming to Charlotte in two weeks - recommendations

Apr 17, 2017, 12:22 PM

Freakshow being my wife's insane family of redheaded catholics. Hey, at least they don't look at me funny when I crack open my 12th beer.

Staying at Doubletree in Gateway Village area, West Trade Street. Need recommendations for pubs, breweries, restaurants, glory holes, etc in the area. TIA in advance.

You have a pretty good group of breweries just south of you Old Mecklenburg, Triple C, Sycamore, Sugarcreek, Lenny Boy, Wooden Robot, and Unknown. You have a good group just north in NoDa with NoDa, Birdsong, Heist, and Free Range. There are a few others nearby as well. AAA baseball at BB&T park, nice stadium. There are a TON of good restaurants all around you there. If you're there the weekend of April 29, you can fly 45 minutes down the road to Benford Brewing in Lancaster, they're having a festival from 12-9 with bands and a bunch of kid-friendly entertainment. I'll be there with a crew including Mrs. Tig and RH Sis, and we'll be meeting up with tdrake, shedrake, and clan.

I had a condo on West Trade for several years - lots to do

in the immediate area.

I recommend the bar at Morton's. Great bar bites Sunday - Friday. Great drink and food prices.

On Tryon, there is Ri Ra Irish pub which has a "Whiskey Room" upstairs which serves almost exclusively Irish Whiskey. They have some great boilermaker pairings too.

For seafood, Sea Level (in the Hurst Tower) serves mostly seafood caught along the Carolina coast and also has a great selection of Oysters from up and down the Eastern Seaboard and usually one or two west coast varietals as well.

For Southern cuisine, King's Kitchen is a good stand-by.
