He wasn't banned for the tapes, he was banned because the tapes brought to light his years of racism, sexual harassment and assault lawsuits, and housing discrimination that the sports media and NBA has been hiding his whole tenure as an owner. I read a study not long ago outlining the fact that there does appear to be enough of a genetic difference between standard Caucasian blood lines and those of Jewish descent to warrant them actually being classified as a race.
It hasn't really been universally accepted, but throughout the 20th century it has become more and more accepted.

White is an umbrella term that includes several ethnic groups. So not being differentiated from white has no weight on whether or not Jew is a race. Jews is also an umbrella word that includes Sephardic and Ashkenazi. And Jews fit under Semite, which also includes Arabs. Jew is most certainly a race or ethnic group.

Jews have a relatively contiguous culture, which has been mostly culturally isolated over thousands of years. I tend to believe this leads to slight racial differences.
Look at all the nuanced racial differences in places like the Balkans and TransJordan.

I would argue it's anyone of euro decent, but the ole kkk might take issue with Italians and spainards as they aren't Anglo Saxon.
I would consider white to be euro and blood Jews, look where they almost all lived before the holocaust, Europe. Then the survivors started settling in Israel and the us.

The traditional definition of race and ethnicity is related to biological and sociological factors respectively. Race refers to a person's physical appearance, such as skin color, eye color, hair color, bone/jaw structure etc. Ethnicity, on the other hand, relates to cultural factors such as nationality, culture, ancestry, language and beliefs.

I was defending his right to say what ever he wants. And it was a private conversation he was in.
I would say the biggest racist I know of at the moment is Obama. Can you fire his butt?
And whose job is it to blame the guy for past politically incorrect transgressions. Yours? Was he prosecuted? Is what he did against the law? So he hurt some feelings bwaahhhhh. Should be taught to get over that in about the third grade.
If I were to be banned from something, I would hope it would be something like the NBA. Or better yet, lets ban about a thousand foul-mouth rap "artists" and Rev white, al sharpton, charlie rangal, michelle obama, barrack obama, jackson---those are the real racists

But it IS the NBA commissioner's job to manage the league as a whole in a manner that doesn't negatively impact it.
Whether the suspension was warranted or not, the fact is that is ALL that has been done. He hasn't been prosecuted (or persecuted). He simply said something that pissed off a significant enough amount of fans that the NBA commissioner felt he had to do something.

No one is infringing on his freedom of speech at all.
He is legally allowed to say whatever rubbish he wants. He is not, however, free from the repercussions of his speech. And if you own and run a business which makes its money based on popularity (such as a sports team) then what you say can certainly cause the flack to fly.
The legality of the tape would only enter into the picture if this were a legal proceeding. But he signed a contract when he bought the team, and either the contract grants the powers to the commissioner or it doesn't. If it doesn't, then he'll win a civil suit (should he file). If it does, then he won't.

As a result, I am against an organization being allowed to ban him for his private views, just like I am against an organization banning someone for religion or race.
Legal is only a small part of the picture here. He should be legally protected from what has happened to him. Cases like this are going to further turn everyone into paranoid, fake, politically-correct robots.

His past discriminatory actions were no secret. Folks knew - this wasn't out of the blue SHOCK FACTOR. The issue here is first and foremost money. Folks were willing to look away as long as there was no PR nightmare. His money was good ... up until TMZ exposed a private phone conversation. Even the NAACP looked the other way. Now look at their stance. They still want his money.
I don't condone his views and I am embarrassed that people still have those views. But Let's be real. Do you honestly believe that the NAACP didn't know about him? They were more than willing to accept his money in exchange for giving him a good rep. It's sad but true.
And if you believe that the NBA didn't know either, you are ignorant. Money goes a long way and right now, it's going to go a long way for PR purposes.

The fine, so long as it's within the rules, is fine (although I'm confused how it was reported the max was one million then it magically changed to 2.5)
