Have a younger cousin in Rock Hill who is like a 2nd sister to me. She went to the ER on Christmas Eve with kidney stones and developed sepsis and now has ARDS—-a severe respiratory infection in both lungs. She went from wrapping presents to being sedated today with a breathing tube. About to leave now to head that way. It had a horrible survival rate from what I can discern, but would appreciate any positivity and prayer you guys could send her way. She’s lost both of her parents as well as an infant son from SIDS, and would be leaving behind a husband and two young sons—-they really don’t need any more. Thanks folks.

That's heavy. Supposedly a lot of lung infections going around the Carolinas. Hopefully she can he through it. I bet she does. Sorry you're dealing with that. Sorry she is dealing with that.

Spent the day in RH yesterday. No real updates yet. Still in medically induced coma with breathing and feeding tube. Heart and kidneys seem ok. They’re trying to “wake” her later today and do a test to see if she can get off the ventilator. At that point they’ll know where we stand with her lungs and just as importantly we will know if there seems to be any neuro damage from the extreme oxygen deprivation she was experiencing.
Really appreciate you asking. Will post when I know more.

She’s awake, coherent, and off the ventilator. We haven’t asked her to recite Pi to twenty places or anything but she has her personality and no glaring neurological issues are present. Also her oxygen levels seem good breathing on her own.
Would be surprised if she doesn’t have some recovery time and/or lung scarring/hardening to contend with, but that can be managed I guess if so. The main thing I know is that with the combination of things she had, there was like a 60+% plus mortality rate, and then a really good chance of bad permanent damage if you were in the remaining 40%, so for her to be where she is right now is against the odds, and the best Christmas present I could get.
Many thanks for the concern, prayers, and positivity. It’s been a tough few weeks around here and on some strange level, you guys help sustain me.
