Watched the end of the Bama game ... Clemson had a chance to score late and the QB overthrew the WR at least 6 feet too high.
What is it ? release mechanics ?

It's done it's over it will not change no matter how much some of you cry about it. New season new team and same goals. Siruis answer: most likely culprit is over-striding.

QB takes too long of a stride toward his target, it lowers the desired high release point of the ball. Thus you get an angle to target change which QB has to adjust for. QB will typically over juice the throw due to the extra momentum in the stride. Mechanics can go wonky in tense situations on the field.

Depends on what’s causing the coach to overthrow.***

better, develop better. Each player is different and a great coach will find what works for each individual. If the coach played at a high level it may help that he can bring those tools and experiences to his players.

That situation is solved by one brief coaching comment in practice and after a game. "If you overthrow a pass then you will run stadium steps for every one you throw incorrectly!" Unless the coaches bring in another QB as a result of missed connections, then they best make a clear consequence evident for mistakes. I'm not saying kill the offending QB with steps, but they aren't going to reconsider the situation unless they have a price to pay so to speak.
Teaching from several sources, the NFL to college, wouldn't hurt either.
