Brent coaches the Oklahoma Sooners dude. Do you think he’s in some sort of bad position? Some people must think college football wasn’t played until Mr Dabo became coach at Clemson.
OU is a Blue Blood. He wants to win games. So he is doing his job and trying to be better.

People really don't understand there is a scholarship limit. One thing no one is giving Dabo credit for, he keeps most of his star players. Retention in the Era of the portal might be more important than anything. OU had to fill gaps because they hemmoraged players after the season was over. Clemson does not have room to go out and replace entire position groups like Tnet wants.

You wouldn’t have scholarship problems if you were not taking legacy players that wouldn’t make a d2 program roster.

No offense but Brent's on field results at Oklahoma don't lend a ton of credibility to building a portal team...Also, since he departed, Brent has as many championships using the portal as Clemson has had not using the portal. Zero

This argument doesnt even make sense. Dabo didnt win a title in his first 2 seasons as head coach either. Additionally, OU had a better season than we did thus past year. Lastly, as a Clemson grad living in Oklahoma the OU fan base cares about winning...period. Brent is doing what is necessary given the current climate of college football to win games.

I would give newer coaches a break. They are usually dealing with some legacy issues.

This is essentially it. Every other program utilizes the portal to maximize it's depth of talent.

Just about every coach disagrees with Dabo on The Portal but my guess is if you print the OK transfer list and then compare to their depth chart, most will not be starting.

Oklahoma has only ever valued one thing: winning. They have made their legacy doing anything they had to in order to win. They have a long history of corruption tied to winning. BV is getting ready to join the cheatingest conference since the SWC disbanded and you think his mandate is to build a family-friendly program? He gave guys a year grace period but it’s nut cutting time in Norman and BV doesn’t want it to be his nuts. Everything is on the table for OU just like it always has been.

Venables has to use the portal in order to be competitive. He has two options.
1. Use the portal and upgrade the talent.
2. Lose games and get fired.

as 20-30 players on the roster would immediately leave. He'd be left with no choice BUT to use it. It's the way of the world these days when transitioning coaches.

like BV is doing this year, then you can bet there will be more portal activity.
BV has no choice, at all, to hit the TP hard regardless of the pressures of the OU faithful and the position. Hope he has great team leadership sticking around to get so many newbies coming in to buy in accordingly.

I didnt read all the fluff posts about portal crap because I am tired of it. But that said, go find BVs interview from last year where he said he believes in Dabo's method and he will be similar once he gets his team stable. He had to replace 37 players his first year, mainly because players didn't want to buy in.
Based on BVs interview, he is very inline with Dabo's beliefs. So now go chase your portal pumping in a different direction because BV hates the portal but it's necessary to build his base after gutting the team.
