Examples where the land grant university is better

Jun 20, 2016, 9:11 AM

It occurred to me that other day that Clemson is probably the only land grant university that is dominant over the other traditional university in the state. In academics and athletics we own Scar. The only other example I could think of is that GT is academically superior to UGA but that is definitely not the case in athletics. Am I missing any?

Is superior to Fl State academically. And for a while they were often superior athletically.

Auburn fans try to say that it is the academically superior

Jun 20, 2016, 9:22 AM

school in an attempt hold themselves in higher regard than the "Bammers," but any reputable ranking service i.e. Princeton Review, U.S. News & World Report has Alabama ranked higher overall. So that argument really doesn't hold water.

I honestly think both Auburn and Alabama fans suck and watching them squabble over who has the worst fans is quite entertaining.

For the most part Auburn has one of the nicest fanbases in the country. Alabama, although a bit arrogant, the fans are not too bad (although you always have some Harvey Updyke types). Academically it is a wash.

As far as fan bases go, UGA is the worst place I have ever been for a Clemson game. Before the Spurrier best years ever happen, going to a game at William Brice wasn't near as bad as it has gotten since they have actually tasted real success under Spurrier, but Spurrier helped edge a lot of angry hate for us on. After 4 0r 5 years under boom champ, the shame of how low their program has returned to, the coots in William Brice won't be so eager to talk all the chit they do now at the doo doo ice hole....

Ohio State is both

Jun 20, 2016, 9:36 AM

I'm not a fan at all, but I went to the N IL game after our Louisville game and had a coworker give us a tour. Largest land grant university, and it is an impressive sight. Crowd at the game couldn't hold a candle to ours, though.

Jun 20, 2016, 9:37 AM

Jun 20, 2016, 9:51 AM

yes and yes.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

but they weren't founded as one

Jun 20, 2016, 10:17 AM

land grant universities (Morrill Act) weren't in existence until 1862. UGA was founded way before that.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

correct...not too many years ago, UGa and unc got into

Jun 20, 2016, 12:48 PM

a public tiff about which university was the first public university in the US.....and their recent disgraces not withstanding, it was proven historically unc was established first
