I don't think the Skip Wise story is anything like Bellamy's situation. Can you explain?

Skip Wise was 'arguably' the BEST college freshman that suited up in ORANGE (yep - better than Watkins). Went pro after his FR year - Bellamy can't even do that due to rules - so that's no option. Bellamy and Skip Wise shouldn't be used in the same sentence IMO. Now I wish I hadn't done that - TWICE.

If you saw Skip Wise play - you'd know what I'm talking about.

Still remember the Tates Locke show,

Dec 10, 2011, 10:40 AM

during highlights of a game in which Skip made a layup by throwing the ball up behind his back. Heck, I can still remember some outdoor scene where they had, if I remember right, Skip, Tree Rollins, Colin Abraham, et. al. Those guys could freakin' play. Unfortunately, it turned out Tate was running a basketball program slightly dirtier than Gabe Kaplan's crew in Fast Break, but it was fun there for awhile!

I am not familiar with Skip Wise. When did he play at Clemson?

Played 1 year in the mid 70's when Tates Locke was coach. Both he and Tree were freshmen together.

I think Skip made all conference as a freshman-very good freshman player. After 1 year bolted to play pro ball in a league that went belly up soon thereafter. He ended up on drugs and put in prison.

Tates Locke was fired for recruiting violations a year or so later.

He got hooked on heroin and only played two professional games. Ended up in prison shortly after.

wise was using heroin before he got to clemson. Somewhere there is a thread with a link to "the Skip Wise Story" It talks about how he grew up, and eventually got himself off drugs.

I think what Bengaline is saying is for Bellamy not to waste his talent the way Wise did. Certainly marijuana and heroin are different animals, but both will get you kicked out of school and could end a career before it started.

Exactly, Tbalm!

Been mowing leaves so I was off the grid for a while.
I watched Skip every game he played at Clemson. He was a Michael Jordan-type talent. First ever All ACC as a freshman! He was virtually unstoppable when he shot was on - which was often!
