Everyone has opinions on Clemson

Everyone has opinions on Clemson

Some opinions are based on statistics and facts, some are based on what we perceive with our eyes. Some of that true, some of it just false perceptions.

What I and most Clemson fans know is this:.

This years Clemson team is average at best in most areas and pretty good in a select few areas. Factually, they are average at total offense, average at offensive position groupings. Maybe above average at RB because of Shipley.
Statistically, at Defense, our front 7 is above average and DBs are below average as we do have some youth back there. Perceptively, as far as QB, DJU has great athletic ability in some areas but he has no field vision, no fluidity, and lacks certain tangibles that great QBs have. Awareness, quick decision making, confidence, and positive body language. Most fans this year have grown weary of the coaches telling us all DJ "played his butt off" yada yada yada. We all get he plays hard and we all know
It all gets laid at his feet but he IS just a cog in the wheel ....there is so much wrong with this year's team. Receivers that can't get open, too many dropped passes, overthrows, under throws, D backs getting beat long far too much and YES questionable play calling and an unimaginative playbook for this teams abilities.

Coaching......I like Streeter but he ain't the guy. Clemson needs a proven O coordinator with a playbook and imagination to match.
As far as Defense.....I think Goodwin has done a positive enough job to warrant more time. The defense all things considered did fairly well this season. It's just a shame a good Defensive effort gets wasted with such offensive woes.

Additionally....I also think we missed on a few recruiting targets and have a few recruiting busts that also play into the woes of these last two seasons.

This team could very well be 8-4 and they coach and play like it.

As a fan, I would've rather had Dabo start Klubnik early on in the season when it was evident to most that DJU wasn't much better than last year's model and have Clemson battle through a 8-4 season with Cade Klubnik making some mistakes than having gone thru a 10-2 season with DJU. Everyone likes DJ he just isn't what fans are accustomed to seeing on the field as their QB. And I'm sorry but from what I have seen out of CK on the field (less a few plays where they put him in an impossible situation) I would take him and his abilities and QB play over DJ every time.

It all seems unappreciative to say considering this team could still become an ACC Champion yet I'm not sure if that really says how good Clemson is ...or how average the ACC is yet again.

The issues with Clemson the last two years are dynamic to be sure and the program has endured more change in that time than at any other time in the Dabo era.
I just hope in the off season Coach Swinney recognizes all this and does make some needed change.

That's why he's paid extravagantly

We are average because our quarterback is below average. It’s really just that simple. No need for long analysis.

You’re right he is below average but most problems don’t have simple solutions. Agree to disagree Go Tigers

He’s basically paid to be the CEO, and make the hard decisions (benching DJ, PERMANENTLY) for the organization that need to be made on a regular basis, and here is exactly where he is failing us. I know he has the ability, but it wears on you over time, & I do legitimately question if he has lost his edge in making these decisions.
