ESPN starting to shred the B1G

almost like they do the ACC. I am sorry but the B1G taking Rutgers and Maryland is going to kill their perception as a football conference.

B1G doesn't really care. They are looking at around 40M/per school based on the B1G network alone. The SEC is making money but unless they can build a comparable network they won't touch the B1G in total revenue.

Whatweeating,
You always care. Perception is reality. Its about selling your conference. When you cannot sell your conference then you have problems. Maybe they do not care in the moment, but they will in the long run

they can be a good football program, and have been more consistent than many Big 10 programs.

cam,
Not going to agree with you on that Maryland program. That program is a disaster and the town could not care less about college sports. It is literally all about pro sports. It is a joke when you visit their s hole of a stadium and 18-20,000 show up and half of them are fat chicks

I've been there when the stadium wasn't full, but never when there were only 20,000 there.

If UMD averaged 40,000 this year that is a total crock of **** I watched a good bit of their games this year. Upper decks empty. Heck even a lot of the lower deck. Last year and the year before the same thing

their stadium fits about 60k

so a lot of the upper deck would be empty with a crowd of 45,000 (about 1/4 of the stadium would be empty).

Access to a market is just that. Its access. It does not mean anyone will watch or want the B1G channel to be a part of their subscription package. In fact they are so busy watching the YES channel (Yankees) and Fox (Giants, Jets) and ESPN (Knicks) that they just flat out don't care.
The sports world in the northeast is so watered down. There just isn't much room for growth in a market that is so cluttered.

Since when did NYC care about Rutgers?….

Don't see how either Maryland or Rutgers bring a market. When Maryland had good years under Ralph Friedgen they couldn't even fill their 55,000 seat stadium. So if there attendance is that pathetic in good years, how is Maryland bringing the Mid Atlantic market?

B1G in trying to keep Penn State in the fold. As we've witnessed ourselves, adding programs to fill a geographic footprint waters a conference's image down more than it's going to help. That's 15 more games in the B1G football schedule that even less people care about.

ESECPN is starting to get competition from the Pac 12, B1G,

and the Big 12. They are going to start ripping conferences or minimize their coverage of conferences not named the SEC. The Pac 12 and Big 12, overall had good years and were equal to or better than the SEC, yet you didn't hear anyone from ESECPN on how well teams from those conference's played this year.
