He was once beloved by fans across the country, but since he cried on TV 4 years ago it has been slowly going downhill for him.

If Herbie really did make that phonecall, then he should be censured in some way

by college football. Announcers with a national stage have no business influencing players over where to play. Moreso than anyone, their conduct should be above reproach when it comes to that sort of stuff. I would have thought Herbie knew that better than anyone, but I guess not.

Herbstreit is every thing bad about college football. He is the mouth piece for all the corruption in college football for years.

If you like the NIL, playoffs, conference stability, then you love herby because he's been pushing this for years.

Making UGA weaker benefits his Alma mater, OSU. Not a good look for Kirk if this is true.

I agree here but he is a supporter of all “Blue Bloods”. He is one of those old school fans that only care about the old power houses. I’m sure he would love to see Nebraska rise to prominence once again:

He was also the point man for ESPN to push the narrative that FSU should not be in the playoffs so Bama could get a bid. He thought he was above reproach so the sheep would blindly accept his narrative. He was shocked then lashed out when folks rightly called BS. His persona of being the unbiased good guy for CFB on ESPN is pretty much gone.

He made his biggest push for FSU to be left out on College Gameday, before Jordan Travis got hurt. That's what did me in.

this is a bit ticky tacky.. I'd be ticked if i was a UGA fan but theres nothing

wrong with Kirk having an opinion. The kid didn't have to go through with it if he didn't want to. Sounds like he wanted to. Only way this woudl be bad is if he paid the kid to go or incentivized him to switch. But just making a phone call and giving his opinion..who cares. Wish he would've did that with Todd Gurley when he picked UGA over Clemson at the end of the cycle.

Yep. Nothing to see here.

No rules broken. Seems a little odd that he would make a call unless he already had some dialogue or connection with the family but there is no reason he can’t do it.

named in multiple cases for alleged tampering. While I agree the optics are bad, Herbis is giving his opinion. He is not offering incentives.

Who specifically has accused UGA of tampering?

ESPN just needs to ensure they nip this in the bud and I think it's a non-issue.

ESPN really needs to institute a policy where their personalities (or really, employees) simply cannot get involved in this. At all. It doesn't matter if you can justify it or not...it's a bad look for the network.

On the other hand, I'm not sure it's a big deal.

The NCAA can't do anything...they can't do anything about ANYTHING...let along something that isn't counter to their rules.

The whole FSU story is just trying to pile on but commenting on who should get in is part of his job...he's offering his opinion and then engaging with fans...that is exactly his job.

Encouraging a recruit to go from UGA to Nebraska is encouraging a strengthening of a Fox Sports conference over an ESPN conference, so there's no financial gain.

And Herbstreit has a mountain of footage of him talking up programs that are going up against the Buckeyes. It's a stretch to say that he did this to help the Buckeyes but he could easily point to the mountains of praise he has heaped on programs competing with Ohio State to establish that he's not working behind the scenes to clear the way for them.

So...no biggie...but ESPN, clean up your act.
