ESPN 360 / ESPN App

Apr 3, 2013, 9:48 AM

I can get everything on TV I want from an HD antenna, Netflix and Hulu. The only thing that has kept me from canceling cable is the ability to watch college football on ESPN networks, which only poses a problem (for approx) 25 days a year. (Thurs night & Sat)

If I switch to Charter internet, I can access all of the ESPN 360 content on my phone/computer, which I can mirror to my TV via Apple TV.

Does anyone have any experience with the ESPN app and can you truley watch the ESPN networks live at anytime, or is it just select programming?

if a game is on TV, it will be blacked out on 360....

that only poses a problem for you if it is a cable network like ESPN.

ESPN 360? Did they do a 360 like our Clemson Tigers Baseball Team?

If your ISP licenses it

Apr 3, 2013, 10:07 AM

Then WatchESPN will allow you to see ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Deportes, and the internet only ESPN3. Really the only blackouts I see are the ESPN3 feeds, and then really only because it is available on an ESPN feed.

I've been without cable for 3 or 4 years now, and survive football season through WatchESPN, OTA HDTV, and the occasional other internet stream.

Re: If your ISP licenses it

So for example, you are able to watch a live game on any of the ESPN networks via WatchESPN?

I am

As the ISP I use licenses it and makes it available.

THe only odd blackout is on ESPN3 exclusive games (online only) that are picked up for local broadcast and thus blacked out. But this may be 1 game a week if that.

Not anymore

Apr 3, 2013, 10:12 AM

I have Comcast Xfinity, I use the app and watchespn all the time. It used to be that anything on the ESPN networks not on my cable subscription I could get on either app or my computer (EspnU for example). Now however Comcast has changed it's agreement with ESPN so I am only allowed to stream on the app or computer the channels I have in my cable package, along with anything on espn3. You would need to check on this with your provider. As to Franc's comment there is a way to fool ESPN into thinking you are in a different area of the country so that local blackouts don't apply. If you google it, you should find a work around.

Correct. When I canceled my TV this summer to spend

the summer in the mountains. I could not watch any of the ESPN channels since I had canceled my TV in Jax. They are getting good at this. I have Comcast.

Like the above poster stated, not anymore.

Apr 3, 2013, 11:38 AM

As of a couple months ago I can no longer watch ESPN, ESPN 2 and ESPN U on Watch ESPN, even though my ISP has a contract with Watch ESPN. I can still see ESPN 3 games, but because I only pay for internet, and the new rule says you have to pay for the channels on cable to be able to see them on Watch ESPN, I can no longer watch the cable channels.
