Some possible reasons
Apr 10, 2014, 8:13 AM
|
|
1) FSU was really good. Like all time good. 2) FSU did not play any quality opponents before us. Georgia film would have been a good scout for them. Idaho Vandals not so much for us. 3) I still think they held the heck out of our DL. 4) I think Venables adjusted his defense to try to create turnovers when it became apparent that the offense wasn't going to win the game. FSU was able to take advantage for some splash plays. This is just my opinion. 5) No doubt one of Tajh's worst games of his career. Really hurt to watch him struggle. It did look like others choked up but Tajh did the most. 6) Turnovers. When you give an all time great team extra chances you are toast. If it had been an even turnover rate maybe the score would have been acceptable. 7) The team realize they weren't winning by the 2nd quarter and gave up. FSU needed to maul us on national TV to make a claim for higher rankings to supplement an otherwise weak schedule

It was 90% FSU's defense. Their DL won the battle against our OL. Their LBs were very good and took full advantage of the fact that our OL had their hands full. Their DBs were outstanding. We didn't play a secondary anywhere close to that talent level all year.
Tajh has never been any good when he didn't get at least decent protection. Early on he was running for his life and didn't react well even on plays where they didn't get quite as good a rush. The clock in his head instead of running for 3 seconds started beeping at 1.1.

Fairly certain it was the three turnovers in the first half

That's the reason we lost the game.
You can't commit three turnovers where they score 21 points off of them in the first half against the best team in the country.

before but starting with LSU and UGA wins we proved we could hang with more physical teams and showed improvement. Now we have to build on that but I see no reason we can't match FSU in the physical department.

In the LSU game, our DL kicked butt against a young OL at least partially depleted by injuries. Yes, we played a tough physical game against a quality DL, but got our best results after our D forced multiple 3 and outs against LSU's offense.
Against tOSU, we were clearly the better team. We tried a couple times to give them the game, but won that game based on talent and motivation, not execution.

the team. The d did not respond well to a nervous Tajh and his turnovers - made the whole team anxious. I think, with a calmer steadier qb and great d, the problems may be over. ALL IN - GO TIGERS and I hope Tajh has a brilliant career in the NFL and appreciate all the games he led us to victory!

entire team played tight
Apr 10, 2014, 10:21 AM
|

I was jacked when I arrived in the stadium. Then I watched the team on the bus with the TV cameras, and I did not like the look in our players eyes. It looked to me like they were totally self-conscious and thinking that the whole world is watching me and they had the "deer in the headlights" look. I hated either that TV forced the cameras on us, or that we allowed them inside the bus. It was OK at Georgia that we let them focus on the bus ride, but going inside the bus seemed to put pressure on the players and was an invasions of privacy and they tightened up, rather than play loose, like Florida State did. We should NEVER allow cameras inside bus. Are you listening Dabo?

I watched the team get off the bus for the tiger walk, and they looked really nervous. The only one who was really smiling was Watkins.
I turned to my wife and remarked how nervous and right they all looked, I knew then that the night might not go well.

Honestly, I thought it was bad coaching

Remember during the NC game between FSU and Auburn, when FSU was on the ropes and about to punt. The faked the punt and got the first down and stopped the momentum. That was the play that saved FSU from getting blown out because it felt like Auburn was just going to roll over them.
Clemson was never able to stop FSU's momentum. The coached did nothing to try and stop it. FSU is not 51-14 better than Clemson.

I would say it came down to momentum and holding.
Early turnovers set a terrible tone for the game. We got behind, got down, and gave up.
Their Oline was able to hold with impunity throughout the game. One time they were actually called for it, and from what I recall we got two sacks in a row on the next two plays. They would have beaten us anyways due to the talent they have on their team and the momentum they carried from the very first plays of the game, but they got away with some serious holding in that game.

Did our defense stop them? Did our offense produce? I chalk it up to a stupid case of riding too high and not being focused. Y'all can cry FSU is so much better all day long if you like. But IMHO they are not. We can beat them.
