Got to thinking about Danny..and what he really did for CUFB

No other coach came close to winning the NC..no coach really had the kick you in the ditch mentality on O & D especially..had very solid kickers as well as specialty teams..and a talented group of coaches who gave 110%..not to mention his line play was superb on both sides.
And, his personality and old Alabama draw was as close to Frank Howard as you could find..with humor, sly foxy smartness and a competitive spirit to boot. Hated to lose even more than Frank I think.
Glad to hear he's coaching today in an All-Star Game in G'ville or Charlotte.

I wouldn't say that no other coach came close to winning the NC. Coach Howard had a a couple of undefeated teams. They may not have gotten the opportunity to play for the NC but his better teams could play with anyone in the country as exhibited in the 1959 Sugar Bowl. He lost to the eventual NC on a fluke play. Frank Howard put Clemson football on the map. Period.

I love the man, I came to Clemson in 1978 so there is a special bond there .
I love to hear him talk; football, fishing or farming it is always entertaining.
The interview he did with a student this past year was facinating . It was posted on here.

energize our program, and the man by whom all subsequent coaches at Clemson have been judged. Our mentality changed from hoping to expecting wins, and now under Dabo, that mentality is reemerging. It was exciting to be young (in my 30's) and to be keenly attuned to our efforts, and along with thousands of others in the Clemson family, I rued the day he was no longer our HC.
Now, I have great faith that Dabo will persist, and I would strongly encourage all of our younger folks to the same level of participation that we older Tigers enjoyed during the Ford years. Maybe, just maybe, 30 years from now, you'll brag to your kids and grandkids about a stellar Clemson run!
