Eight penalties, five turnovers, 2-12 on third downs…

Dec 31, 2014, 8:04 AM

With the Sooners coming into the bowl game averaging nearly 40 points per game, and with their healthy “Star QB that demolished Alabama in the Sugar Bowl”, along with a Freshman running back sensation Samaje Perine (with several different pronunciations according to Ed Cunningham), many thought with these two players, along with the “mystery” of the Oklahoma scheme, that our Tigers would not stand a chance at defeating a Bob Stoop’s dynasty team.

Well, the Tiger’s first play of the game on defense (Jarrett and Boulware stuff Perine for a 2.5 yard loss) and our first play on offense (65 yard scoring strike from Stoudt to Scott) quickly turned the Sooners into “Laters”.

As I watched the game unfold, everything just felt right. We won the toss, deferred and gave them a hard-hitting 3 and out on their first drive. Stoudt looked comfortable with solid reads and crisp passes. Seems like all of the calls were going our way (the fumble reversal was the icing on the cake), and our boys, umm - let me change that to MEN, played with such intensity and discipline; they never had that “we are going to try not to lose” look in their eyes that we have seen in teams of the past.

Oklahoma had never seen, and did not anticipate the speed, strength, and athleticism of our Tigers. Dabo Swinney has changed the culture and mindset of our Tigers. We expect to win and we play to win; so different than all of the years of us playing not to lose.

After watching the game again, our Tiger’s body language and their “get after it” attitude lead me to an interesting conclusion. We have that “Championship Swagger” again at Clemson. Stephone Anthony was right when he proclaimed “Clemson is coming!.

Thank you Coach Dabo Swinney and all of the Tiger seniors for building such a solid foundation for greatness at Clemson. Looks like the Tiger’s Roar is going to echo o’er many, many mountains…

was in the bag with Cole starting. I'm so glad Cole was able to go out with a big win and the MVP trophy. This game is one for the ages !
