DT question: So taking the family back to Pigeon Forge

Gatlinburg for a week starting June 30. We've been going there for a few years now, and think we've found our annual summer vacation spot, but I was wondering if you guys knew of anything really fun to do (keep in mind 5 year old boy and 2 year old girl.) The resort we're staying at has an indoor and outdoor waterpark, just looking for other things we haven't done the last few years.
But now most importantly... Which places to eat are so good that I need to call ahead and let them know I'm about to come put a hurtin' on 'em??

Eat at the Apple Barn and Old Mill. Place to take kids is Cade's Cove. I will be there next week. My family has been going there twice a year for who knows how many years. Gatlinburg is no where near what it was 10 years ago. I rent a cabin off the beaten path on the river. Just relax and enjoy what God has created.

Ditto on the Apple Barn. We're going to Pigeon Forge on 7/14 and plan to eat there. It's been a while for us though.
Cades Cove is nice and getting there early is a great idea so ditto on that. The line gets long and moves slowly.
The last time I was there was on a motorcycle and we rode up the back side from Maryville (?). I don't think you can go that way in a car though. Beautiful country.

You'll see more whitetails then you've ever seen in one place.
If there's a bunch of cars parked in a certain area check it out. The kids will probably get to see a black bear (or two.)

we're staying at The Resort at Govenor's Crossing. Waterpark is a little smaller without all the big slides and stuff, but again a 5 year old and 2 year old can't do much of that anyway.
The amt I was paying to stay in a cookie cutter 2 queen bed hotel room at Wilderness was almost twice of what I'm paying to stay in a King/Couch studio with separated bedroom, full kitchen, washer/dryer, dining room table, and ROOM FOR THE KIDS TO RELAX and wind down after hard days. To me it was a no brainer for the price. I think we should have just as good of a time there. Don't get me wrong, Wilderness rocks, and when the kids are like 10 and 13, we'll probably be doing that again, but for now need something a little different. And having the full kitchen will pretty much pay for itself in saving from eating out all week!!!

Canoe/Tube the Little Pigeon River (River-Rage or River Run)
Behind Wonder Works on Music Road near the Apple Barn, there is a place called Wonders of Flight which is a large 72 foot diameter 30-guest gondola tethered balloon experience that goes up about 500 feet in the air.
I'd also suggest a zip line canopy tour or hoprseback riding at Cades Cove or one of the other stables.
There is always Dollywood, mineature golf, and go carts.

going to try the Apple Barn this time. Kept meaning to last year just never got around to it. And Cade's Cove sounds like a pretty awesome place as well. My 2 year old little girl is over the moon about animals so I'm sure she'll love the heck out of it.
We'll be there June 29 - July 5. Hopefully I'll run into some of you Tigers if you're there during that time.
Also, anybody know if the MagiQuest is worth doing with a 5 year old boy? Every time we drive by the castle it's all he can do to stay in his seat.
This all hinges on the fact of course, if I can get my wife out of The Christmas Shoppe in enough time to save the bank account. In about 12 days if you hear what sounds like a toilet bowl flushing wherever you are, don't pay any attention to it. It's just my wife ringing up at The Christmas Shoppe.

a hole, you have the most biodiverse national park in our country within minutes. Screw laser tag, take them outside and let them play in a shallow creek. Go on a mile long hike. Take your time and let the kids explore, climb on rocks, or just goof around.
My daughter is now 12, but at 2, we'd throw her in the backpack and explore Arches NP, Yellowstone, Smokies, etc.
Whatever you do, tune in and have a blast with the family.. nothing better in the world.

explore the park, go to Cades Cove, horseback ride, fish, etc... that is how we do it.
However, the most fun my son had on our trips to gatlinburg was whne he got to paly Laser tag. It thrilled him. If you do that area right, taking adavantage of the natural and commercial, it can be a great trip for everybody.

bikes. You can rent a bike there for cheap and ride it around. It's flat. They have kids bikes with trainign wheels and baby carriers.
You'll see deer everywhere(unafraid), foxes, groundhogs, possibly a black bear off in the distance.
You have to get up early, but it is a special experience.
