Did some independent AutoCAD work for a company and they paid me. Had two separate contracts, each that paid $500 during the 2012 year.
Because the total was over $600 they have to send me a 1099 right? Or because they were separate they don't have to? They have until the 31st if they have to send one right?
If they don't send one, I just need to claim it as extra income?

Yep they should be sending you a 1099, and yes by Jan 31.
If they don't send one I'd do the following:
1. Claim the income
2. Call RHTiger and Zettner
3. Swear you have no idea how the business burned to the ground.

Businesses make small purchases all the time that they don't send out 1099's for.

Same employer ID to same SSN, totaling over $500. But if they don't, you don't have to claim it.
