Why are they still in the ACC? It's past time for an upgrade...

Weren't they one of the two schools that took up for Clemson during the vote for an extra year of sanctions? That's good enough for me to keep them around.
The other school...I think was Maryland

the ONLY ACC team to win a National Championship in baseball while a member of the ACC.
They won the ACC football championship in 2006. That's more recent than every other ACC team not named VT, FSU or Clemson.
They have been in the NCAA Basketball Tournament 20 times.
They've won 18 ACC golf championships and 3 national championships.
They won the soccer national championship in 2007.
They've won three women's field hockey national championships.
They have more team national championships than we do.

The question becomes: Who is going to replace them? All the schools I see mentioned are far reaches at best. Second question: How are you going to get rid of them? You're not. And it is a pointless argument. Wake isn't going anywhere...whether they "bring anything to the table or not." I might add that Wake has EIGHT NCAA National Championships. I think that is more at least twice the number that Clemson has. Just saying.

Greenville County and the four counties that touch it

in SC have almost 1/4 of the states population....
From census.gov. Greenville County population is 474k, Spartanburg County 290k, Anderson County 190k, Pickens County 120k, Laurns County 66k.
That is a total of over 1.14M people within a 25 mile radius of downtown Greenville. The entire states population is 4.832M.
For our friends in the midlands, Richland County and the six counties that touch it equal a population of 918k, 200k less than the Greenville area.
Lexington County has a population of 273k, Richland County, 399k, Sumter County, 108k, Calhoun County, 15k, Fairfield County, 23k, Kershaw County, 62k, and Newberry County 38k.

the ACC.....and I doubt I need to name it
There was a ton of extremely strong sentiment for a decade or more from some Clemson folks to have the university withdraw from the conference....but a couple of presidents, the BOT and the really higher-ups in IPTAY managed to quell the rebellion finally.
But didn't the Big East kick Temple out a few years ago because they couldn't average but about 500 fans to their football games??....in Philadelphia

Then Tates Locke went ballistic saying the reason he came to Clemson was because we were in the ACC. We basically left SC hang out to dry. And that my friends is the truth.

and UNC (not that it will ever happen) who bring shame to the ACC. Wake Forest has been a member in good standing--a founding member. You don't just throw out founding members of a conference. They also stood by Clemson when Swofford and his minions kicked us while we were down. You can say it's the past and doesn't matter all you want. It does matter.

I like Wake. I want Wake in the ACC.

I love our away games at Wake and have not missed many of them in decades. Wake offers a great environment to see the Tigers play on the road, with easy access, plenty of parking, and cheap tickets. If you haven't been to Wake for a game, go. Home or away, Wake usually presents a great opportunity for the Tigers to get a Power 5 conference win. Bama has Vandy, Ohio State has Northwestern, Oklahoma has Iowa State and Clemson has Wake Forest. Nothing wrong with any of those match ups.
Wake has historically been a much better basketball program than our Tigers, they won the national title in Baseball in Omaha, the Deacons are an historic golf powerhouse with more titles than any other ACC team and they have been competitive in football. Within the last ten years the Deacons won the ACC and played in the Orange Bowl. Within the last ten years, the Deacons beat Oregon, on the road. From a competitive standpoint, the Deacons have held up their own in conference and nationally.
Clemson is a good school. Wake is a good school. The two schools have played each other in every sport for decades and I enjoy the traditional rivalry. Wake has been competitive in every sport within the ACC and have more than held up their part of the bargain as a conference member.
The Deacons aren't going anywhere. Suggesting they should leave the ACC is absurd.

that's like $5 a ticket. That alone should eliminate them from D-1 football.
