Do we think Wiggins was really asked to leave or

May 12, 2017, 10:41 PM

or do you think that is how he 'felt?'

Just seems strange. Never known our coaching staff to ask anyone to leave who wasn't a problem.

Why would u ask him to leave and it does nothing for you scholarship wise or team leadership wise? Unless you're a trouble maker, which we have NO indication Wiggins was, it doesn't make sense. I think the conversation was more about playing time, similar to Pagano, which is understandable.

Hopefully he lands somewhere he is able to start and plays well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We didn't gain anything by him leaving

May 12, 2017, 11:03 PM

Ergo, it wouldn't make any sense whatsoever for him to be asked to leave, not that I would belief that our staff would have done something like that even if it did open up an additional spot for our 2018 class.

The scholarship that opens up with his transfer will likely be given to a senior walk-on for next season and open up for the 2018 recruiting class the same as it would if Wiggins had stayed.

Why do you think he was asked to leave?

May 12, 2017, 11:24 PM

I don't remember seeing that. . But to answer your ques, no, I don't believe the srltaff asked him to leave.

Wonder how true it is.

A quote from TCI, "I met with Coach (Dabo Swinney) after the spring and we had a conversation and he mentioned to me that he thought it was best that I find somewhere else to go." I know it's TCI but it IS a quote.

TCI has no credibility***

It's a quote. You don't put these things --> ""

May 13, 2017, 6:13 PM

Unless it's verbatim. TCI is reckless with their reporting, but that's a whole nuther level of bad journalism to make up a quote. Even TCI would have been slammed already if it didn't come from Wiggins mouth.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL...I think they left out a lot of the conversation...

May 13, 2017, 6:50 PM [ in reply to Re: Why do you think he was asked to leave? ]

I truly believe that Wiggins talked to Dabo about his playing time for next season and Dabo told him he could not guarantee it because others were ahead of him and he would have a lot of work to do to make a starter. I am sure they discussed the entire situation and playing time. I bet Wiggins asked him if he thought he could start someone else and the discussion lead to Wiggins decision. And him being a senior and graduating, it makes perfect sense.

What TCI is doing is trying to get more clicks. It is click bait.....like they always do. Heck, I could put quotations around any comment and say it happened but leave out the entire story and my quote would be negative. TCI is well know for misquoting and leaving out much of the story.

TCI using that "quote" tries to make it sound like Dabo said he was not worth a #### and get out of my house.

Any Tiger fan should know that this is not Dabo's way, never has been and never will be.

I am not sure who is worse...fake news, national inquirer or TCI

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I suspect that our staff was honest with him regarding

May 13, 2017, 9:26 AM

the amount of playing he was likely to get this year and left the decision to stay or go elsewhere to him.

I think it went down like this "Other guys are going to get more snaps, and if you want starting PT it might be best to go somewhere else." Makes no sense to runoff a senior that can provide quality depth, especially when we are 5 scholarships under the limt. TCI is just spouting off BS again.

Brad Brownell: more losses than any other coach in school history.

Dabo guarantees you until you graduate

May 13, 2017, 9:41 AM

That's always been his M.O. The promise Dabo makes to parents is: "your kid will get a Clemson degree." Wiggins just graduated.

Dabo does not guarantee you anything past that. I've never actually heard of him running off anyone who wanted to stay, but what he will do - what any coach who actually communicates with his players will do - is communicate honestly about where a player stands on the depth chart and allow him to make his decision from there.

In this case, it sounds like Wiggins had fallen behind some other guys and was communicated to that effect.

So Wiggins wasn't going to play much at Clemson barring a rash of injuries, and he still harbored NFL aspirations. If was going to get much PT his final season of eligibility, he was going to have to do it elsewhere...which is undoubtedly what was communicated to him. Not "get out".

Keep in mind Wiggins transferring now in no way helps Clemson. It doesn't free up a scholie since Wiggins was a senior and would have been gone anyway. This wasn't a case of Dabo cutting a guy to make room for incoming freshmen because he oversigned. This was seemingly a case of Dabo honestly advising a guy what route he needed to take if he intended to play that last and final year.

I definitely think he left on hiw own to get more PT IF.....

May 13, 2017, 9:45 AM

there were no problems.

Re: Do we think Wiggins was really asked to leave or

May 13, 2017, 10:05 AM

With the talent that CLEMSON now has, I do not consider it a problem if a player chooses to leave to allow him more PT. I pretty much expect it to happen more and more in the future.

For example: Our QB situation is probably envied by most of the teams in the country. We have 5 guys that could start for some other Div 1 team, but only 1 of them can start here. There are plenty of teams that would guarantee them to start IMO. It would not surprise me to see 2-3 of them leave CLEMSON by the 2018 season. That's JMO, but would not be shocked to see it happen when TL comes to town.

Had a disagreement with Dabo in his coach player meeting before the summer. Wiggins had been in the dog house a little bit and he voiced his displeasure with Dabo about being in it for too long and not getting his shot. Both sides agree to just move on
