Do FCS schools enjoy playing bigger teams, like Clemson?

Sep 4, 2013, 9:07 AM

Do you think they are glad to be playing a bigger school and get that publicity and environment, or mad because they get blown out (usually.)

PLAYERS ARE EXCITED AND ADMINISTRATORS ARE COUNTING THE CASH

From talking to guys at smaller schools I hear

Sep 4, 2013, 9:23 AM

2 things. Either they are a good FCS team and want their chance to get the huge upset, or they know they will get blown out but they are fans of the superstars on the team they are playing against and are happy they can say they got to play against them in college.

I would guess it's the coaches for the smaller schools that aren't huge fans of it because they don't want to get their guys beat up before their conference games start.

I'm sure some wanted to go to a larger school and want to show coaches who didnt recruit them that they are that good

This is probably true

I was just relaying what I have heard. I have talked to some players from Citadel, PC, and Furman. Overall I think the players love it.

always looked forward to the opportunity to measure their team against the larger Division 1 programs.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

Yes....I was at The Citadel when we traveled to SC and Ark

...both wins by the way....and we loved seeing how we stacked up against the big boys. Incredible opportunity.

I would think the upper echelon FCS definately enjoy it

If you are a top tier program then I would think they would look forward to it. Most of these top level teams have talent with their first stringers that would be on par with teams ranked in the mid-teens on up. But with depth then comes the challenge. Hence why these teams often play their bigger brethren close the first half and then falter in the second - usually.

But there are always the North Dakota States and Appalachian States and Citadels that pull the upsets against some pretty respectable teams.

However, if it is a money grab only (yes, all these teams get paid I know) and the team gets slaughtered in back to back weeks like poor Savannah State - http://www.nytimes.com/2012/09/10/sports/ncaafootball/for-savannah-state-a-55-0-defeat-served-its-purpose.html?_r=0 - then I can see a little frustration.

But I never played in college so talking out of my ....err...rear.
