Don't know why he was not ejected from the game. Cheap hit.

You can not hit a player with any part of your helment above their shoulders..plus after he did the hit he stood there talking smack and was bobbing his head and jumping around ...he was proud he hit the guy like that...should have been ejected on the spot..

Yeah - I think the head bobbing after the hit was more of what got him suspended. It was a brutal hit but did not look like a cheap shot as the receiver was moving down to avoid the hit which made the impact higher.

That and posting the video online acting proud of it***

How can a coach be this stupid? Spurrless -

Sep 17, 2012, 4:14 PM

...""It's sort of interesting. If you hit him right in the knees when the ball gets there or right in the belly, I guess that's OK. But anything above the shoulders is considered off limits right now," Spurrier said."

does he not know you can't SPEAR into someone's head with the top of your helmut?

where has this ####### been?

What i dont understand is if he would have went straight for the guys legs that seems a whole lot more dangerous and more chance to injure someone but its ok. Seems weird. Ive seen that exact many times in high school football practice. Its wasnt till recently that its illegal. Could be wrong tho

When I saw the hit the first thing that came to my mind was this is a "George Atkinson" type hit. For you young guys, George Atkinson was a free safety for the Oakland Raiders in the !970's. He was the dirtest player in NFL history. He was a thug and a criminal. Swearinger had plenty of time to make an appropriate tackle, he targeted the guy's head. There was intent. I think he was upset because Birmingham was moving the ball on their defense all night. He should have been suspended more than one game.

and then tries to turn it around and be about his QB getting hit....what a prick

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Eh. It was a mistake. Kids make them.

Sep 17, 2012, 4:41 PM

He should be suspended for it, certainly. It's not like he's a head hunter though. The kid is known for blasting guys over the middle, but not for dirty shots.

I agree with Ball Coach that defenseless QB should be foul

My Facebook is blowing up with coot fans complaining

Sep 17, 2012, 5:58 PM

Their claiming that it was not a dangerous hit (it was), and claiming Vandy did it the other week as well. The specific hit they are referring to looks like it was more neck area, which, while it is probably a more dangerous hit, I don't know of anything specifically prohibiting it.

Besides, they should be used to suspensions by now, a one game suspension is nothing for them.
