Difference between this year and last year

Oct 30, 2023, 4:14 PM

I know the only stat that matters is the score at the end of the game. However this offense is gaining more yards per game than last year and and the defense is better than last years. The true difference is turnovers and our rushing offense which I contribute to our oline being way worst than last year’s. If we could hang onto the ball and had an average rushing attack I would be willing to bet our passing game would be better because we could take pressure off Cade and our receivers. I’m not saying we’d be elite but I think we’d be top 25 offense.
But I’m not trying to sugar coat it our offense has been terrible for the past 3 years. I think our offense has lost their confidence at this point this year. With a combination of terrible luck with devastating turnovers, our oline being horrendous, and the ACC drastically improving this year, has been the perfect storm for what has given us our 4-4 record.

No we aren't

We averaged 412.9 YPG in 2022. We currently are averaging 379.1

We're averaging 417 this year

But yards per play are down to 5.5 from 5.6 a year ago.

Compares the years with all opponents. What you said wasn’t correct.

Whine on, my man. No worries.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The Tigers were almost this bad last year - minus the back breaking TOs.

1

Oct 30, 2023, 4:22 PM

The Tigers struggled against some bad teams last year - but usually managed to pull out the win. This year - we're managing to pull out the loss because of the occasional pick6/scoop-and-score.

Add to it now - the players have lost interest (they are here expecting to play for championships).

while Dabo hired a new OC, it sure looks like we are running the EXACT same plays that Elliott and Streeter were calling.

LOL it is completely different. We never threw over the middle of the field and we do that now. We’re running the same plays Riley ran at tcu last year we just can’t get all 11 players to do their job. Which makes it hard to put together a 15 play drive to score.

That would be very interesting. I think our offense was slightly better in the first part of the season and then we lost walker parks and Williams and that hurt bad. And we have since lost our confidence by having back breaking mistakes time and time again.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes it is guy. You have no clue about anything other than

Oct 31, 2023, 11:50 PM [ in reply to Uhhh...no...it's not !!!!*** ]

the offense uses screens, just like everyone in the game today. You have no clue about the blocking schemes, run plays, or pass routes. All you see are plays which aren’t normally getting a lot of yards, and you default to, “it’s the same offense”.

No. It’s not. Last year was a QB run heavy, running off tackles, and short passes. This year we have basically zero QB runs, we run between the guard and center and never outside. We still utilize a shorter route tree, but the design is completely different save the screen game.

Those are the facts.

You’re speaking for yourself and people who don’t know what they’re looking at. Formation and blocking schemes are completely different

Just curious

Oct 30, 2023, 4:23 PM

Wonder what the averages would be if you took out Charleston Southern and FAU from this year and Furman and La Tech from last year?

CK is also getting balls batted down or tipped and intercepted.

Could be him but could also be the offensive line not engaging enough.

Easy for me, last year's team was better. We beat both FSU and NC State last year and lost to them this year.

Yes but the ACC is light years better this year vs last. Fsu was a shell of the team they are today. Same can be said about Duke, Louisville, and unc.

We were 5th in red zone scoring % last year

Oct 30, 2023, 5:02 PM

This year we are 124th. And it's not just FG misses and turnovers. Our TD % us down to 53.6% from 72.5% a year ago.

Struggles in the running game are probably partially responsible. Our YPC are down to 4.2 from 4.6 a year ago and short yardage has been awful.

Re: Difference between this year and last year

Oct 30, 2023, 5:05 PM

I agree 100% with the OP.

While we deserve our 4-4 record, we are in a much better spot than the typical 4-4 team.

We have some pretty good pieces of puzzle.

From a win loss perspective this season is over by our standard barometer. But the opportunity is there to turn this around and have a top 5 team next year.

Hopefully next 12 months is when Dabo shows he is a CEO and not only a football coach. He might earn his salary and bonus more so in the next 12 months than the past.

Last year ended with a 2, this years ends with a 3...???
