Not P&R, but kids need their fathers desperately

being a now assistant to the head ball inflator, it is insane to me how these mothers (no offense kms135) raise their children.
Almost all of the kids I deal with on a daily basis are raised by mothers with either no male in the house, or a weak male in the house.
Just to give an example from last night:
Wife of finally decides that our kids need to expand their pallet more than just chicken nuggets and Raman.
Fine, I've been saying that all along but didn't have any support.
So last night she makes a fajita casserole. It was terrible, but there's a life lesson in this.
We start off with they have to eat half of a fajita each. Then once we started eating and realized how awful it was, we decided they only had to eat one bite.
Son of started crying before even fixing his plate because we were "making him" do something. eyeroll.gif
So I, knowing what I have to deal with on a daily basis with parents who put their foot down and then pick it back up at the slightest inconvenience, makes the decision that no, you will eat one bite.
Wife of is ready to throw in the towel, go back on what she said, give up like a lot of the parents I deal with on a daily basis.
Son of ate one bite through tears.
Wife of is now mad with me because I made him and his sister eat one bite like we said they had to. Daughter of ate her bite no problem.
Am I the ####### here?

I’m also a great chef so maybe that helps. My chicken piccata last night was bomb.

So most of his first two years was a battle to get him to eat anything, which, as you can imagine, has turned into a decidedly narrow pallet now that he's four. Hard to unring that bell.

they will eat some sushi and fish but she I guess she thinks they should eat more clams/oysters/mussels/shrimp.
The reason my kids probably don't like that stuff? We don't cook it at home a lot because my husband (you know, her kid.. the one she raised) doesn't like it.

My dad drank tea all the time. Sweet tea until the doctor said no more sweet, then he switched to unsweet. He would come in from the garden drenched in sweat and get a big glass of diabeetus, never water.
My wife orders it at every restaurant, half and half tea. It's fugggin gross.

I'll address the easy topic first...food.
We are in the same friggin boat haha. My 2 year old will eat hot dogs, chicken nugs, spaghetti / meatballs, pizza, YELLOW mac and cheese, and that's about it really.
She used to anihilate any pasta we'd fix, during the week I'll cook some noodles w/ alfredo. Nope, has to be the yellow mac and cheese now.
Meat wise, she's getting there. She'll eat steak now (ofc), lamb (omfc), pork chops (kind of), fish sticks, and she surprisingly loved salmon? need to re-test that.
Veggies wise it's brocolli + cheese or bust. won't eat no beans, and likes sayin sweet taters more than eating em, etc. etc.
The broader theme of kids lacking father figures...
This is a multi-generational problem. IMO it started w/ the boomers post WW2 with the expansion of suburbia and urbanization of the workforce, and has continued a negative trend sense. It's really messing up relationship dynamics, male patriarchy, and just in general how dudes are perceived in society.
Definitely a broader philosophical conversation that I'm SURE would go absolutely GREAT here and/or in taggernet.pol. haha.
Outside of economics, and my daughters having a strong female to look up to in my wife, one of my main reasons behind my wife working and us splitting as much as possible is for this phenomenon that I think is often overlooked as a root cause to a lot of issues in society.
You hear some guys be like: wife raises kids, I work, wife stay home, wife do everything. ok.....that's fine, and I'm sure has some advantages. But I have close "friends" with this mentality/set-up that are absent from day-to-day parenting, which, IMO, has a much higher long-term risk profile (both at the individual and societal level) than sending your child to daycare / school / etc.
Couple this with the massive disparity in female to male teachers...and really kids are exposed to nearly 3:1 ratio of women:men.
If you can't form an objective opinion, right/wrong/indifferent, that the male patriarchy (in the West especially), is dissolving, then this conversation is a moot point.
If you do accept that, and you don't accept that millions of years of evolution support having a strong male patriarchy, then again, this conversation is a moot point and will be driven by emotion.

2 year olds are just ########

3 year olds aren't much better, but they start being slightly reasonable around 4.
I've the way to expand their pallets was by having them involved in the menu and meal preparations. My kids (9 and 12) have expanded their pallets greatly in the last few years. We started out small, by saying we were going to try something new and letting them pick from a handful of options or look at a cookbook and find something interesting. They would protest about onions, but then I'd explain how lots of familiar foods (pizza, pasta sauces) have onions and they've been eating this for years without realizing it.
We went to 4 countries last summer and my son says Spain had the best food because he had the best cheeseburger in a fancy tapas restaurant there, lol.
My kids eat a wide variety of cuisines, but getting them to eat anything green is still a challenge.
In regards to the rest of the post, I saw a meme recently that was a reminder that the 40 hour work week was designed around someone being at home taking care of the kids and house. I have friends with husbands who don't do much other than work and entertain their own interests (drinking, golfing, video games lulz). It's like they have an extra grown ### child hanging around.

my kids see both parents working hard.
I also see both extremes at my job.
Mother works multiple shifts because father is either absent or sits at home and smokes weed all day.
Or the other extreme.
Mother is at home and emails me constantly about every little thing little Johnny does or doesn't do because she doesn't work and if I contact dad he's all "talk to the mother"
