How we went from 4th and 1 to 1st and 15 after a too-many-in-the-backfield penalty? We need to add that play to the playbook.

Only thing that makes sense is the refs called it a first down on the carry by Mafah and didn't communicate that well to the announcers.... then we had a procedure penalty on first and ten, making it then 1st and 15.

No way if it was 3rd and 1 do you get credit for the play when illegal formation is called for not having both sides of the line covered with too many men off the ball. Its a dead ball foul the second its snapped.

gang still showed it as 3rd down just short of marker. Next play we had the 5 yard penalty which some thought made it 3rd and 6 ( by the sideline markers) , but really it made it 1st and 15. The failure to properly show the correct down on the sideline caused the confusion. We were assessed correctly.

That had to be a mistake by the refs, right? The penalty was a presnap variety but apparently because they didn’t blow the whistle in time the result of the first down was accepted? I think that was an ACC officiating crew so totally makes sense they’d botch it.
