UNC@Chapel Hill is a massive albatross around our neck. Removal of that albatross is very significant.

make him National Coach of the Year and our next President of the US.
You've got to be dreaming if you think this team has a prayer of beating UNC in Chapel Hill. We've never won a men's basketball game there and this year will be no different.

I might even build him a house but it wouldn't be close to Clemson.

At the beginning of the season, I was optimistic about the basketball team. I felt like BB was owed a season in the rebuilt John. Now, I believe he must go. Last night's performance was truly awful.

Some things just have to happen before there can be any SERIOUS TALK of Clemson becoming a LEGITIMATE basketball program
Breaking the streak in Chapel Hill is right up near the TOP of that list!
IF Brad does it (not holding my breath) then he buys himself another year ... period!

That's a totally different conversation ...
Dec 23, 2015, 6:17 PM
|
|
This is the situation ...
If you pretend to compete in a conference where you have to play a certain team regularly on their home court, and you have NEVER in over half a century, won a single game at their place, how can you ever expect to be taken seriously?
The question was not ... "Would you give Brad Brownell a long term extension if he beat UNC in Chapel Hill?" ... it was "Would it buy him another year?"
If (a huge if indeed!) BB were to break that streak that is a total and unbelievable embarrassment, he will have done something no Clemson basketball coach has ever done.
It's got nothing to do with football, or Dabo, or SCar ...

I would keep him under one condition only:
Dec 23, 2015, 10:07 AM
|
|
What he does against UNC will not be the deciding factor.
If he has demonstrated, at the end of the season and after six years, that he has at least kept the program at the same level it was when he took it over. Even then it would be debatable, as it would men no improvement over that time.
That would mean we finish 7th or better in the ACC, AND make the NCAA tournament.
If he can't do that, I'd have him out of here so fast it would make your head spin. Why on earth would we keep a coach that is clearly taking the program in a downward direction by any objective, measurable standard?

Yes, if he beats UNC this year, keep him and give him a $1,000,000 bonus. I'll be willing to pay the first $1,000 of that. I'm tired of hearing about "the Streak."

Dec 23, 2015, 11:53 AM

not that Clemson won it. We have a horrible team this year and it would take nothing short of a miracle to win this game. It would only be a classic case of UNC overlooking us. But this streak will not die this year. I'd be willing to hinge a lot on that bet.

1 win and that's worth keeping him? I still would look at the entire season and his past seasons. That win would be meaningless to me. It would be a novelty because it broke the streak, but in the end just 1 game. It's about the season and past seasons.

Here's the key component to this whole argument, "who u gonna get?"
Dec 25, 2015, 1:05 PM
|
|
If you're gonna get another unproven guy then save it. Brad always gets us up to speed by the kid year and we end up middle of the pack. Which is about what I expect us to be. So I say he's doing his job just fine. We can always go hire another guy just like him and be the same or worse OR we can actually throw some money at a guy who has proven to recruit well and be successful. But we have to expect whoever that successful guy is going to jump to a better job once we get good bc no one is ever going to stay here for the long haul.
So that's Clemson basketball in a nutshell. Either get a guy that keeps us middle of the pack like Brad usually does, or go get a home run guy and watch him leave at the height of his tenure. But the constant nagging is boring on this board.

The only reason Clemson is a stepping stone job is because we treat it as such.
Dec 25, 2015, 8:03 PM
|
|
Pay for a top coach and support basketball like it is a high priority - meaning allowing him to have the staff and facilities he needs - and we can keep coaches around. Continue to treat it like an afterthought and we will continue to have marginal results.
