For all of those slightly worried about Dabo going to Auburn, don’t be. It’s just a bunch of rumors someone started to gather attention for their site. It’s nothing more then that.
Dabo is one of 3 owners of the franchise restaurant, Walk Ons that’s going to be near downtown Clemson. Also, Dabo is invested in the Shepherd hotel that is in downtown.
Dabo is also invested here with his family. His Wife has made a lot of friends here. Two of his three sons are still on the football team. That’s a lot to ask for from his family that has been plugged in here for over 20 years.
It doesn’t make sense for Dabo to leave to go to a program that’s in far worse shape than we are just to get paid about the same amount of money. He’d have to pretty much restart at Auburn. It would take years for him to find success there. Why take that risk? I personally don’t think he’ll take the job. It’s just too much to sacrifice.
I hope this brings comfort to people that were somewhat worried.
There are places and or situations that one could imagine that would make sense to speculate or worry about him leaving. Obviously, if Alabama were looking. Or, if things had gone sour or awful at Clemson, and/or the admin and Dabo were on different pages, etc. But none of that's the case. (Yeah, there's the normal criticism and grousing and this and that about the offense, but you're gonna get that **anywhere** where the expectations are high.
I'm not saying Auburn's a bad job at all, but nothing would be significantly better there than here, and some things would be worse. It's almost unthinkable, even from Dabo's perspective, that he'd go there.
The only draw I can imagine for Dabo would be proximity to home. But gain, he has deep roots here, now too. This is probably just an excuse for website traffic. That motive drives more unsubstantiated news (both sports and otherwise) than we all realize.
