Coot perspective: LSU win was huge!!

After looking at it closer, I think that win was huge for Clemson and Dabo. And I'm not a Coot that tries to diminish that win. It was a good one, for sure, that got noticed nationally and re-energized the fan base. Besides the record against us, Dabo was only 1-3 in bowl games and had lost to So Florida and the Orange bowl debacle in the 2 years prior. That win came at a great time. I know the ACC champ was big too, but the OB took the "feel good" out of that. I'm just saying that if that final drive against LSU didn't end in points, I wonder what the feeling about Dabo and the program would be at this point? The whole point of this is.... I believe this years OB is maybe even bigger. This game will be magnified X 10 I think, in terms of the perception of the program by the fans and the rest of the country.

Yes it was, and followed up with in over UGA. We rode that wave until the wipeout vs. FSU

The win was huge for the program, however idiotic fans let their emotions get the best of them
There was last minute drive, a 4 and 16 toss up to Nuk, and a field goal to win by 1.
Big win yes, the problem is a percentage of fans thought "we beat the best, we are ready for the big time" then add the UGA game and fans went into an emotional state that hasn;t been seen maybe ever. Those 2 games were huge for the program but terrible for emotionally weak fans. Those guys turned it into double digit wins of the coots, at least a td favorite over FSU, Dabo coach of the century, Chad Morris OC of the decade, etc
So while it was huge for the program and stable fans, the unstable ones mostly making up this site, went too far with expectaions for a work in progress.

Good points all. From my perspective, I think that the 10+ win seasons coupled with the occasional breakthrough win such as LSU means that a young energetic coach that is only a head man for 5 years is still learning his trade. Many years ago, a young energetic coach went 1-4-1 in his first 6 games against a seasoned veteran, that being Spurrier vs. Bobby Bowden. We all know how that turned out for Florida.

Exactly my point. I think it MIGHT be critical in the end (have to see how it turns out) if Dabo turns out to be long term successful. If LSU goes the other way, I'm not sure he gets the time to "mature" or however you stated it.

comparing he and Spurrier at any point of their careers is just asinine. Their backgrounds are nothing alike. Their career paths are nothing alike. Spurrier runs HIS system. Does Dabo have a system?

My Opinion

What I think some confuse is a loss - any loss, is some big thing with reputation. Come on - Ohio State is one of the best teams in the country. Up until their last game they were expected to be playing for the national championship. So losing to them means what to our program??? Seriously - are we supposed to never lose to anyone or we did a 'Clemson'? You know what - nearly ALL TEAMS lose to the top programs. And you know why? Because the fact that they rarely lose is why they are top programs.
Clemson's problem, in my opinion, is not the USuC game. Yeah - I hate losing to them, but the loss means little in the grand scheme of things. Clemson's problem is that sometimes we do a complete and utter meltdown totally embarrassing everyone on the field. Alabama, West Virginia, FSU are the examples. Yes, we have some great wins in Georgia and LSU; before that the two wins over Virginia Tech. But trash talk is all about what ammunition you give your opponents and these meltdowns were epic. Yes ... epic.
That is what needs to end. The question was, what if the last drive against Georgia had resulted in no points. Well in my opinion - nothing. We would have lost to the team that was ranked number 5 and favored to win; and lost by just a few points. But Clemson dug it out, fought to the very fiber of their being and won - WON. Why is that not as important as a WV loss in a totally meaningless bowl game? One reason and one reason only. People what to talk Sh*it.
We have had a pretty good team. Not top 5, but pretty darn good. But we must, please God we must, stop these shameful meltdowns. Go down fighting, not completely inept, then giving up.
You all know I'm right.
Go Tigers!

I would suggest that Dabo can lose many many more games. He can lose the OB in a blowout...He can lose 4-5 games next year...He can lose his 6th in a row to the coots...but as long as he keeps kissing babies and healing the sick in his spare time ...He ain't going no where...Clemson U. and Clemson Administration eat it up ..they love it ...Dabo is shrewd and gives them what they like..LETS GO DABO !! LETS GO DABO !!!

I think Dabo's Needs The OB as Much as the CFB

Had Dabo lost the CFB, we would not have been riding the Top 5 wave because that helped us start in the top 10 against UGA....
Dabo each year has found a way to get some type of "big" win to hold off his foes..
In the year we lost the OB 70-33, we were a young and over achieving team that Won the ACC when expected to be 7-9 win team...Winning the ACC for the first time in 20 years helped Dabo....
Last year we lost to FSU and the Coots but won the CFB against a BCS top 10 LSU in won of the greatest Clemson games ever played....
This year, we again lost to the coots and FSU by double digits....If we lose the OB with the key players that we are losing I am not sure this will be considered the kind of season to be proud of....Beating UGA would be out only signature win and that isn't enough IMO.....
We need this win far more than TOS does and as long as we win the turnover margin I think we can.
