Conference Affiliation DOES Matter.....

Jun 4, 2012, 2:44 PM

It's obvious - look at where Carolina is now because of being in the SEC - that's the one thing that finally helped their athletic programs to really improve.

We need to make a move because the ACC is holding us back.

Think it has a LOT more to do with Spurrier...

Jun 4, 2012, 2:49 PM

i.e. Coaching and Recruiting than it does being in the SEC and the supposed "money" they're making from their membership... They sucked for a long time in the SEC until they landed spurrier.

Just saiyan.

But I'm talking about baseball, too - I just think......

Jun 4, 2012, 2:54 PM

from a recruiting and opponent point of view it makes their programs more attractive than before.

Being in the SEC helps baseball recruiting?

Jun 4, 2012, 3:02 PM

Please explain.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree that their baseball stadium helps recruiting

Jun 4, 2012, 3:04 PM

but still that's 2 straight NC money... not just SEC money.

Since SC joined SEC Clemson is 12-8 (60%) previous 20 before

Jun 4, 2012, 3:14 PM

SC joined the SEC Clemson was 14-5-1 (74%).

Probably hard to attribute the difference to just the conference. It is most likely a combination of factors, the conference, increased competition levels, improved facilities, SOS, and a new Athletic director to name a few.

Good point, but...

Jun 4, 2012, 3:24 PM

ESPN's constant pimping of the SEC only started a few years back. There is a reason companies spend BILLIONS a year on advertising...it works.

Like it or not, the coots are members of the most pimped conference brand in sports. And, ######, they just happened to hire a few pretty good coaches when all that pimping started (and cheating) and it has put them on very solid ground.

The ACC is hurting us and the SEC is helping them. This is an emergency.

there's just ONE factor

Danny Ford was fired in 1989.

Clemson's coaches since 1992:

Hatfield
West
Bowden
Swinney

SCAR's coaches since 1992:
Woods
Scott
Holtz
Spurrier

and we're STILL hitting the 60% mark.
