The Mrs. is on board with putting in an inground pool in the backyard. However, she also seems receptive to joining a decent country club for the pool, which would include golf. It would be an either/or not both.
It's a nice course, 10 minutes from the house, but I normally just use GolfNow hot deals and hop between 3-4 pretty nice courses for much less than a membership at any of them.

I can offer this small tidbit of advice regarding pools:

It's probably easier on everyone if you drown in your own backyard pool as opposed to drowning in a pool on someone else's property. It just helps to keep the media and the looky-loos at a minimum, and nobody wants the added attention in a case like that.

Equal to or more the initial cost, chemicals, water, and your personal hourly rate of daily cleaning and care of a backyard pool?
Has your wife consented to a written and ironclad contract of no less that twice a month ######## during nekkid night swims?
If either of the above, or just the 2nd, is no, join the country club. What’s the point of having a pool you have to take care of if you aren’t nekkid swimming and sexying in it?
