Anyone else love to travel? Tell me about your summer 2024 plans

Where are you going? Taking the kids or a little freaky deaky couples getaway?

we can be assured the little guy gets some snow. We haven't had a good snowfall since he was two.

Wife has her hopes pinned on getting TSwift tickets in Vancouver, which sparked the idea of either going there for the show, or another time as a good family trip. Also considering Quebec.

certain bike company and Vancouver is soooooooooooo far away. You don’t realize it, but you can get to many places in Europe faster than Vancouver. God awful I tell you.

Only two things that are cool about Vancouver is Granville Island and leaving Vancouver.

For real. I went to Whistler once for a conference & to ski, and getting there from SC took about 12 hours with two layovers, ####### brutal day of travel.

We're taking the boat down to Beaufort for a week in April

6

Nov 6, 2023, 2:45 PM

Going to do the tourist thing at Daufuski island and just generally cruise around exploring. Might ride up to Charleston for a night. Kids staying with grandparents, so we'll be solo. Hopefully we don't totally wild out like we tend to do on the rare occasion we can get away.

Hoping to squeeze a trip to the Keys in sometime, but frankly my kids are high maintenance AF right now and it requires so much effort to even leave the house I'm not sure if it'll happen. I haven't had a vacation in ~ 1.5 years though so we're due for something nice.

I’m just barely comfortable taking my kids out of town now, going to try a short domestic flight next month for a quick weekend and see how they do. I love going to Europe, but I don’t think I can squeeze many more two week babysitting stints out of my parents, going to have to start taking the f trophies along maybe in 2025

set of grand kids almost the exact same age as ours so we try not to overburden them. They also still work, so that complicates things. My family parties too hard to really be reliable, if my mom were still around I know it would be different but hey it is what it is.

We had an all expenses paid 'partners meeting' at Torrey Pines in September we had to turn down because we couldn't find someone to watch them for the duration of the trip. In the spring we had to turn down a trip to Weingarten, Germany due to my wife being pregnant.

I love my kids but sometimes it's just like fuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkkk

Like Jimmy, I am planning on taking mine to the mountains this year. It's time for the little fella to get on some snow skis.

It does get easier, eventually. My 7yo is Gucci, I could comfortably take her anywhere at this point. The 3yo on the other hand…

medicated to go through the infant stage again. There for a brief moment we had freed ourselves from diapers and formula, now we're back to being the Scarface of Similac.

Ultimately, we do want to do The Great Loop one day. Maybe by 2030 or so we can start and do it in stages. That's my ultimate 'travel' bucket list item.

Our 4yo did shockingly well on the plane and through the airport.

He pushed his own bags (some of the time). Did great on the plane; even slept about half of it (including through takeoff) on the way back home. I was preparing for the worst, especially since this being his first flight, it was cross-country.

In 2024 we are going on a week long trip to Disney World with my wife's family. We are taking the oldest kid and leaving the baby with my parents.

Unfortunately due to (good) work circumstances that will probably be the only major trip for the year. I hope to work in a long weekend beach trip to the Gulf Coast during summer.

I'm considering an extended weekend anniversary trip in the spring but not sure where it would be.

We don't typically go anywhere in the summer. Too hot. We've been thinking about doing a tour of the Northeast, but that would probably be September. I'm sure we'll hit up WNC and the coast at some point. Probably no big trip this year. Probably do some NC wineries in Spring. Most of the wine is drinkable at best, but it's always a fun experience in the Yadkin Valley.

Winter break in February is still TBD. Outside shot at Honolulu if we can score good airfare. Otherwise the wife might take us to Disney in Orlando.
Spring break will be a southeast road trip ending up in Austin, TX for the eclipse.
Summer is looking like another trip to San Diego. Probably staying at La Jolla beach.
Fall break will be a week on Pawleys island.

Awesome, I’m jealous. I’m really keen to go to Australia and NZ, but I don’t see how you can give that kind of trip justice with less than 2-3 weeks minimum

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was definitely a lot of stuff to do, and I'm doing 3 weeks this year.

Really excited to see more of the sights around Sydney. I got tix for all three Sydney FC games while I'm over there, so it should be pretty fun.

Will visit our son in the Jackson Hole area either in January or this summer for sure and hit up a number of areas in MT and maybe UT too while out that way.

40th anniversary is coming up in 2024. I really want to do a photo safari this summer in Africa, but the missus is reluctant to do so.

I've dragged her to a lot of foreign places in years past and once she got there she had a blast, but she is content with vacays at Kiawah, so Africa may have to wait.

Sounds like an awesome trip, UK & Ireland makes for great easy travel. London and Edinburgh are both great for bigger cities & history, and there is just so so much to see outside of the cities too. My wife hasn’t been to London so we’re going to start our trip there for a few nights in May, see the highlights in town and I think we’ll do a day trip to Oxford. I haven’t been there before and they have a museum called the Ashmolean that has the single largest collection of my favorite painter’s work.

Exploring the great American north.

Will put in for river permits on the Smith and Idaho sections of the Salmon. If I get those I’m rafting.

I want to catch fifty fish in a day on one of the Montana/Wyoming rivers in the Greater Yellowstone area so will probably spend a good chunk of time doing that. Will likely reserve a bunch of nights in forest service cabins across that area and then explore from there.

For some reason I find Greece unappealing. Athens is reportedly filthy and little to see outside the acropolis, and getting from island to island is a flight or a long ### ferry ride. I think a cruise is probably the best way, but this is way way down my priority list.

Croatia on the other hand I hear nothing but great things about, especially Split.

Ok, maybe it will not be brand new but you won't be able to see any age on it. I'm just going to hit the highway, turn the AC and listen to some soft music so I can hear that diesel purr.

Definitely going to E. Tennessee and drop in on a few family members and high school friends I haven't seen in 15 years. Maybe visit the nursing homes where I can probably find most of them. Buy a pack of Depends and take them for a ride, maybe if they look fairly clean and have some good drugs to share.
