ACC vs SEC scheduling
Aug 19, 2015, 9:25 AM
|
|
I know it's been well documented over the years about the SEC's scheduling practices, so I was curious to see for this year how the OOC's for the ACC and SEC compared.
Taking out the 7 head-to-head matchups, ACC schools have 14 games against Power 5 conferences and ND. The SEC: 4. Three SEC teams don't have a single one (Ole Miss, Miss St, A&M). NC State is the only ACC school lacking such matchups.
Other nuggets: The SEC should go ahead and make the Sun Belt and Conf USA schools honorary members. There are 9 games against Sun Belt teams and 10 against C-USA members. By comparison, ACC teams face 4 Sun Belt teams and 2 C-USA foes. The non-Big 5 leader for ACC teams is the AAC, with 7 games (SEC has 5 against them).
A loose argument could be made in the SEC's favor when it comes to games against FCS teams. Every ACC team has at least 1, and BC and UNC have 2, for a total of 16 FCS games. But it's not like the SEC doesn't have them; everyone except Auburn has 1 (13 total games).
Of course they'll spout off the usual "but our conference games are so tough, we don't need big OOC games to show how good we are". Well, how did last bowl season work out for you?

You can't really include the ND match ups when they're a conference member.
Can you give us the breakdown off the 9 matchup a versus the 4 sec match ups?

You can use all the mental gymnastics you want, but the fact remains ND is an ACC school and is required to play 5 ACC football games a year.
Otherwise Clemson wouldn't be playing them.

Be sure to get back to me when the wins and losses against Notre Dame start counting in the conference standings.
Until then, Notre Dame is NOT an ACC school in football. They're still independent.

ND is an ACC Member in every sport except for Football. They have to play 5 football games against ACC foes so that they can be a member in all the other sports.
They do not count as an ACC game in football.
We play an 8 game conference schedule which consists of Louisville, GT, BC, Miami, NCST, FSU, Syracuse, and Wake.
HTH but really couldn't care less if it doesn't!

I honestly sometimes wonder if 09 isn't a Clemson fan that just comes on here to make gamecawk fans look stupid. No way someone is that dense in real life.

Are you really this dumb? Because they are a game the ACC schedules that makes them a conference member? What division are they in? I'm guessing they get an equal share of bowl revenue and tv revenue then. Your team is scheduled to play UNC, I guess that makes them an SEC member right?

ND is not a conference member in football and part of the agreement was to strengthen ACC schedules. Sure if the ACC and SEC didn't play the same number of conference games you would have an argument.

ND is not an ACC member in football. They are still an independent, but have agreed to play at least 5 games a year against ACC teams.
Other Big 5 games for the ACC: 7 games against Big 10 and 1 PAC 12. SEC: 2 for B10, 1 Big 12, 1 PAC 12

I agree, the FCS scheduling has to come to an end.

And 09, I suggest you find a better source for your asinine statements of fact. ND football is not a member of the ACC (thanks Swofford). Perhaps one day they will be forced to join a conference, but as of now they are officially an OOC game.

Seeing Power 5 teams scheduling 2 FCS opponents is ridiculous.
