College Conferences Will be forced To Change Payouts To Teams

Modern college FB is now a big business with millions at stake for teams. The old days of each team in the conference getting equal shares of the revenue generated by all teams are over. The media rights contract cost which is purchased by sports networks are based on the best teams in the conference. They don't give a hoot about the bottom feeders. Each conference has bottom feeders. They contribute nothing to the conference in terms of dollars. They spend little on their FB programs. It's all about Football. The rest of the argument is academic and has no bearing on the multi billion dollar football juggernaught. The top tier college FB teams are not going to allow the bottom feeders to walk away with the same amount of cash as they. It makes no business sense.

There will be a new formula implemented in the power 5 conferences. It will be a formula in which the top 5-7 football teams split 70-80% of the media contract. Any new teams added will get an amount based on where they fall in the category at the end of the year. It may force some of the bottom feeders to seek a new conference. No matter how it is done, equal shares for each conference member is going to be discontinued.

Schools that want to compete at the highest level will have to pony up an ante each year and the rest of em will just move on to a lower level. The “bottom feeders” you mention wont be in the same leagues as the top tier schools

Either way, it changes the way the money is currently distributed.
