Clemson: The New Bad Guys

Dec 20, 2016, 12:34 PM

Just read AA's article on ESPN, and it really has started to put things into perspective.

As we have all discussed in exhausting fashion here on TNet, Clemson is no longer a "sexy" team to the media pundits. We have a white, evangelical at the helm who openly expresses his faith, and players that respectfully speak their minds (See infinite media tweets today about Deshaun's honest comments that were meant to show that he believed in himself and his team.)

This year, the media has seemingly run a 180 on our program (See influence on trophy voting, ahem, Mackey/Biletnikoff/Heisman).

Just seems very interesting at a time where everyone is preaching a good citizen mentality in light of the recent events at Oklahoma. Our program has done it the right way, and its disheartening to see the media spin on our program.

Just keep winning, spot the D#%* ball, and Go Tigers.

teams. Nothing personal. Strictly business.

Agreed,it's this more than anything. Some major outlets, most notably ESPN is all about clicks, views, ratings, etc and so big national fan bases are key. They perceive Clemson as a small, colloquial upstart without the "brand" appeal of an OSU, Bama, or (real) USC. I think they underestimate Clemson's alumni and fan base throughout other parts of the country, but it's just their own ignorance.

We didn't play as well as they expected.

Dec 20, 2016, 12:54 PM

If we would have played at the level they had expected, we would have still been the "darlings". It is that simple. In a couple of years we will be amazing again and they will be all over us like they never left.

Who cares what the media expected Clemson to do?

Dec 20, 2016, 7:21 PM

Probably just not liberal enough for the national press which is how we like it. Go Tigers!!

I don't care either, but so many on here do care.*****

Who cares, they have to cover you if you win. And when you

Best Is The Standard

in a time where social media clickbait runs rampant

Dec 20, 2016, 2:19 PM

the media will follow suit

Simply saying "Clemson is a great team" doesn't sell anymore

the media has no soul...

Dec 20, 2016, 2:46 PM

as a group, it's a pretty good generalization.
