turns it in just in time. Hopes to get atleast a D in the class or repeat the grade

I'll thumb that up. We finally won a title & 2 division

Jun 10, 2012, 6:18 PM

titles. & I don't blame Dabo for the WVU loss; that rests the players & the assistants just as much, if not more.

Of course, even I come from the old school of "We should be winning conference championships almost every year"... and be in the Top 10, & we should.

But what the Tigers have been doing is better than what we were doing before. This article was horrible.

Re: Clemson Rewards Erratic, Mediocre Dabo Swinney With Contract

There is some logic to the article. Dabo certainly has some positive attributes: likeable, ethical, good in-person recruiter, coach-friendly, academically oriented, develops players on a person basis in the right way, etc. However, purely as a football coach, the jury is still out. Not many truly good coaches get spanked the way the OB team did. In fact, outside of the VaTech game, last year's team was a train-wreck the last SIX games. So, it is rational that someone looking from the outside in would have this perspective.
In my opinion, Dabo is no stellar football guru BUT he may be able to find great success in a way similar to Mack Brown. Dabo is not the first HC to have success based on the competence of his Coordinators. Time will tell.
As for the contract extension, I am not in favor of committing to long-term extensions in any walk of life but given the environment we are currently in, it was a reasonable contract (I would have dropped his compensation down to $1.5-1.7MM) although I admit I don't know all the details.

I believe Kevin Steel contributed to what happened in the O-Bowl,because he knew he was on the way out;look at what Coach Swinney said before the game started.I hope we remember thi kind of trash talking.

HOw many coaches have recorded a 9-win season and 10-win

Jun 10, 2012, 2:57 PM

season in two of their first three years of coaching? How many coaches have won two division titles and a conference championship in their first three years of coaching? How many coaches have recruitied like Dabo in their first three years of coaching?

If the writer of the article put in half as much time into his craft as Dabo did, he wouldn't be an unknown.

Re: HOw many coaches have recorded a 9-win season and 10-win

Jun 10, 2012, 3:20 PM

I can name 3 coaches who won national titles in first two seasons

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pell took a terrible CU program and in his 1st season ......

Jun 10, 2012, 5:23 PM

took us to our 1st bowl since 1959. His 2nd season we went 11-1. Ford won the NC in only his 3rd season. Spurrier won the ACC in only his 3rd year at Duke, which was not only the worst program in the ACC, but one of the worst in college football.

Pumpers don't want to admit winners make an immediate and significant impact right away and within 2 or 3 seasons achieve great success. Saying coaches need 5 years to install their system and get their players is pure nonsense!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As usual, you offer your opinions as fact, and, as usual,

Jun 10, 2012, 6:05 PM

they seldom are.....

Red Parker, who actually DID take over a very bad Clemson football program, had already started to recruit significant talent to campus and Pell didn't inherit NEARLY as bad a situation as Parker had......there are many who will tell you to your beak that it was Red Parker who set the table for Clemson's NC run.

Also, while Duke was not a good football program in those days, Wake Forest was the worst football team team in the ACC. Not to say Spurrier inherited the Green Bay Packers, but the Blue Devils had not yet fallen as far as the Demon Deacons were in those days.

And please, desist with this "sunshine pumper" garbage. Everyone sees the good AND bad with the football program......well, obviously except you.

OMG are you serious? Year in and year out the 2 worst teams

Jun 10, 2012, 10:46 PM

in the ACC are Duke and Wake. Jesus, I love how you people think an argument isn't valid b/c of some arcane incorrect and meaningless factoid. Who cares if Wake is technically 8th and Duke 7th in the ACC historical record. Duke sucks, always has, always will. Yet with Spurrier in only 3 years with the crap talent he inherited they won the ACC. Only some pumper on TNET would try and argue it's not an amazing achievement.

As far as Red Parker goes, he was fired for not winning enough. He was 17-25-2 in 4 years at Clemson. He deserved to be fired. His last 2 years he was 5-15-2. It takes more than recruiting to win, it takes coaching!!

Pell came in and took a team that had only won 5 games the two prior years an went 8-3-1 and 11-1. Then went to Florida and took a team that had ZERO wins the year before and went 8-4. Dabo couldn't do that if his life depended on it.

Funny how you want to give Parker credit for what Pell did, but TB rebuilds Clemson and won 9 games his last full season and he gets very little credit. Then 4 years later Dabo finally wins 10 and you folks want to give him a lifetime contract.

You folks are like Obama supporters. Nothing is ever his fault. It's always someone else's fault and crazy excuses are made to cover his inadequacies. Yet the slightest accomplishment deserves lavish praise.

Jun 11, 2012, 1:31 PM [ in reply to OMG are you serious? Year in and year out the 2 worst teams ]

bs at the top of your lungs chickentroll.
Look at the seniors on the NC team and see who recruited them. Anyone with football savvy could see the play of the football team FINALLY start to improve with Parker's recruiting after he'd inherited a cob-web filled cupboard from Hootie Ingram.

Even Coach Ford has made statements very similar, ie that the groundwork for the NC was layed in Parker's last year.

Yeah, Pell came in, cheated like a gamecock and then lied to every Clemson fan just before he pulled an Irsay and essentially left surreptitiously in the middle of the night for Gainesville where he also got THEM put on NCAA probation.

And again, your implication that Spurrier took over the worst team in the ACC when he became HC at Duke was---again, just your misinformed opinion. Wake was the worst team in the ACC in those days---though, AS I POSTED, Duke was certainly no gem.

"Duke sucks, always has, always will" That, of course, is a bald faced lie. Duke was a ACC football program to be reckoned with for a long time until the mid-70's or so. They've certainly won more ACC football championships than your gamecocks---but then, Wake has too.

Here's whats even funnier about your BS: YOU giving Bowden credit for anything. You did nothing but badmouth the man until he resigned. Suddenly, to underscore your badmouthing of Swinney, you've miraculously found pluses in his tenure.

You are little more than a poorly-informed, badmouthing chickentroll who behaves like the quintessential Obama supporter obscuring reality constantly politicking with negativity and ignoring any accomplishments by Clemson coaches.

BTW---when are you going to change handles again?? I'd like to recommend your new name: "dumbassgeecheecoot"

Dabo is the best coach in college football, in my opinion. He was smart enough to get two great coordinators, he is a great recruiter and he is a smart, classy guy. I just hope we don't lose him to Alabama when Saban leaves.

Mark my words, Dabo will end up in the College Football Hall of Fame one day!!
