Just being realistic. If I was in the same position and the difference in pay was 25K or more (I suspect it was considerably more) and each company was comparable, I am taking the money. There are no guarantees in life, unless independently wealthy, take the money while you can. I hope he invests it and doesn't spend it.

If both were comparable with nothing else distinguishing the two? Yes, I would take the money ($25,000 at 6% for 30 years is 143K) but like I said, I bet it was considerably more.
In this case, when comparing Penn State to us, I think they have a better track record of developing OL so once again easy choice. Now in this specific case, is it NIL influenced, no idea.
My point is that money matters when there are no strings or relationships. For existing players, I would hope money isn't a driving force or if it is, it must be a very large sum.

I might not care to wear a pink shirt to work, but if you gave me $1,000, I would. I would not wear *no* shirt to work for $1,000, though.
$25k might sway you to play a season at Penn State instead of Clemson. It wouldn’t be enough to go play lacrosse at the University of New Hampshire instead of football at Clemson, though.

There's one in the portal from U of Tennessee. I'm not sure if Clemson is interested.
Herron never set up a vist with Clemson and Rutledge is the OL from Middle Tennessee that seems like a good fit for the Tigers.

Exactly right. And, understand "it's okay"! If you watch enough football you will hear it quite frequently: "he only had 1 or 2 offers and is headed to the NFL"!
I.E. with the portal being as strong as it is; if we don't hit on a portal target. We can alway go get the best 3-star available who hasn't signed. 3-star and lower players are having a much harder time in today's CFB due to the portal. Sure, you have to develop them and wait. But, we have had high rated players who had to do the same.
We will be okay. Go back and look at some of the star rating of the 15 and 16 teams for OL! You might be surprised. We developed them and it worked.
Clemson will be fine. We have a better OL coach in place that we haven't had in a while.

Others are coming and from better backgrounds/schools, etc.....
The portal has potential to be furtile grounds for OL...and QB...going fwd.
Our HS recruiting will always be the priority and with ML, we should improve from the disasterious dropoff here in 23...but these two groups will many times have holes which the portal can quickly address.
