Alabama's QB (freshman) is the Number 1 QB from last year. He's about to enter the portal.

Clemson will not cut anyone that they offered out of HS. It takes a POS to say they should.

I just happen to live in the real world where things like this are a part of life that everyone has to learn and adapt to. We aren't all going to get the opportunities we think we deserve all the time and we all face rejection even when it doesn't seem warranted. Adapting the right way and growing from it is how people learn to survive and move on.

Have you ever worked for a company that lays off the bottom 10% to make room for better talent? Fortune 100 companies do this all the time. If we are preparing young men for the real world, this is one of the things they are going to face and they will need to learn to adapt and grow from situations that won't always be like the protected bubble they lived within in college.

Once again, grow a pair by naming who you want to cut instead of hiding behind generalities. I have worked for many top companies and most of the time, other than an economic downturn, employees fire themselves.

What do you do for a living? I'm curious now. I've worked for 2 fortune 100 companies neither goes out to lay off employees to replace them. That would be a stupid practice, you have to train people to do the job and if you're constantly replacing 10% of your workforce with new people your business would fail.

We would often replace non-productive employees with new ones to see what they could do.

I am not saying that Clemson should do that, but we shouldn't build rosters with a bunch of fallbacks then not acquire better, available talent because our roster is full of deadweight.

Clemson's competition is using every available tool to be competitive, I can promise you.

Roster management is not a strength of this staff in this new college football world, and anyone can see that but the pumpers here on TNET. Some have even suggested that P5 offers and "stars" mean absolutely nothing, and our staff is the only one in the country that can find the gems where no one else sees them.

The mental gymnastics it takes to avoid seeing reality is reaching new heights here. My God, even I am watching the highlights of preferred walkons, hoping we have found the next Renfrow.

What industry do you work in? I've never seen a company with a high turnover rate keep a consistent standard or produce a product at a high level. You're the mental gymnast if you think having a revolving door is good business practice.

Maybe you are approaching it wrong. Who shouldn’t have been offered a scholarship? That seems to the issue. Someone leaves that wasn’t expected and we don’t have a great plan so it’s friends and family

P5 can’t cut players for athletic performance issues. You can make it known they aren’t going to play. But if they want to stay and finish their degree, as long as they don’t break any rules, you can’t make them leave.

To your point, some tough discussions can be had. Someone posted a list this week of 3 year players on scholarship who have not played a down in a game. Sometimes people have to be encouraged that to see the field, they need to consider their options. In business, we have these type of discussions all the time and ultimately, both the company and the employee are usually better off because the employee finds a home where they can excel and are happier.

If we are preparing these young men for the real world then this is part of it that they need to understand because they have a high degree of likelihood that they will face it at some point in their careers.

Perhaps but Dabo needs those guys on the team so it achieves whatever academic requirements I'm sure the university has set forth for his program. You really think all these scrawny, pasty guys are on the team because of their football potential? They are there to keep the GPA and graduation rates where they need to be so Dabo can recruit whoever he wants to actually play football.

The grant-in-aid is still a year-to-year renewal. Some schools started “guaranteeing” four years, but it’s no kind of rule.

You could have used Google and fact checked first. All Power 5 schools have, in fact, had guaranteed scholarships since 2015.

https://informedathlete.com/the-facts-about-guaranteed-multi-year-ncaa-di-scholarships/#:~:text=In%202015%2C%20the%20NCAA%20Division,scholarship%20for%20poor%20athletic%20performance.

In fact, since that article was written there have been further modifications. Starting this year - even tranfers are guaranteed scholarships to the limit of their NCAA eligibility.

I checked the D1 manual, but this rule must be documented somewhere else. I remember Auburn being the first to offer multiple-year guaranteed scholarships and the fuss around that, but missed that the P5 agreed to all offer them.

No $1 million plus according to what Rhule and the Wake Forest coach said.

The University of Florida QB recruit was promised $13 million for 4 years. He is transferring because he said they did not pay him as much as promised.

Hellooooo…do you have $9 million stinking dollars to give the kid? He won the Elite 11 right? It just came out that Florida collectives promised a top QB recruit $13 million to go to UF. So that’s in the ballpark of what the kid you want will get. It has been rumored Clemson collectives are dolling out in the range of $4-6 million. That’s for our ENTIRE team. So you want to cancel everyone’s NIL to bring this kid in? What it you do that and Cade beats him out? Do you see how impossible the logic is on here?

Keep in mind that NIL money also has to be used to keep the players we have. You think Carter turns down 4th round NFL money if he isn’t recouping some of that in NIL? You think Antonio Williams turns down the Ole Miss money to play at Clemson for free?

The reality is Dabo only intends to use the portal when he is forced to. That is by design and probably the right approach for us given that Clemson does not have any super donors or the Alumni base to do what some other programs have done.
